I only gave this one star because I had to in order to leave a review. Otherwise there were no other positive aspects of this property outside of the fact that I was able to travel with my dog, the close proximity of food options in the area, the oversized refrigerator (in which only the fridge was clean), and the bed sheets were clean.
I, my family (two adults, one teenager and a 7 yr old) and my dog stayed at this property overnight in route to my grandmother's funeral in SC - we checked in close to midnight. Had we not been traveling for over 12 hours I would've considered trying to find cleaner and safer accommodations but we were exhausted. We actually booked this hotel a few days in advance, the pictures were misleading. In any event, with another 6 hours of driving time ahead of us, we decided to stay while the adults took turns sleeping in order to watch out for critters and someone trying to enter as the lock was broken. Thank God for my dog being present.
Upon entering the room my dog ran to catch a roach (not the palmetto bugs outside either), a rather large brown roach. There were several roaches of varying sizes scattering across the threshold when we turned on the lights. We were able to lock the door behind us after jimmying the lock into its chamber but couldn't lock the deadbolt, as it was missing from the door. The attachment latch on the door frame was present but there was nothing to connect it to. Next, upon inspection of the room we found small roaches across the countertops as well. The two burner stove was rusted and the metal plates under the coils were so rusted that they were half rotted away, exposing dark burnt shavings and this black sut buildup underneath.
Moving to the window treatments and the area directly underneath the AC unit - the curtain was broken in multiple places which caused them to not fully cover the window and there were large spider webs with dead bugs caught within it and laying directly on the floor underneath it. We put all of our bags on top of the table and on an arm chair; very apprehensive of having anything on the floor. Next, the hangers were broken and the hanger rack rails were severally rusted. The bathroom facilities were clean enough to utilize, though again we were mindful of not laying anything down or around. The towel rack in there was also severely rusted, while the tub leaked on the floor in front of the toilet when we utilized the shower every time.
Check out was at noon, the front desk was moving slow. I stood in line from 12:17p to 12:35p while one man was being checked in. After checking out, I called to advise that I left my bracelet and a crystal that I had received from my late grandmother, and ask if it could be retrieved only to be told someone had been put in the room. I was on hold for a half hour and switched to multiple people within this time period. Before advising that I had left "jewelry" I was told that maintenance would go check, and a housekeeper checked (though they did not give an opportunity for me to even tell them where to look or which housekeeper to consult). Nevertheless they told me it was not there. I described the housekeeper, asked if they could find her and ask her if she could search where I left them last - no recovery of my items. Mysteriously the house keeper was gone for the day, and they advised the room was in fact not occupied. I advised that someone stole my items and that I would be filing a formal police report in seeking to recover my sentimental belongings.
I would never recommend this property to anyone, and I'm a...
Read moreFound the Suburban Extended Stay of Wilmington on line for a week's visit to NC. Spoke to them a few times via phone to find out if they had continental breakfast, if public buses run along Eastwood, etc. They were nice enough, but no one had information on public transportation, and they claimed to have continental breakfasts for guests (which is untrue)||.||Upon arrival, I was told that the room I had reserved 1 month prior was no longer available, and that they only had 1 smoking room left. We took the room. And although I am a smoker who didn't plan of smoking in the room, it smelled absolutely disgusting. The online pictures of the rooms were also very deceiving. They are small and very dirty, and we had a transient neighbor in the next room who "hung out" outside of his room smoking pot. Even with the door closed, it was very loud.||||While we settled in we had some unexpected visitors - cockroaches! If I could have videotaped our reaction, and our attempt at killing these things, we would've won Americas Funniest Video. On the more serious side, we literally felt trapped in the room because they were all by the door. I called the front desk to ask when the room was last cleaned and if they could send someone up. No one showed up. We ended up killing what we found but decided NOT to stay! They tried to put us in another room and upon examining that room, we saw additional roaches.||||I'm glad we made the reservations though Priceline, as they refunded our paid week (minus the Suburban's service fee, of course). During the refund process, I saw roaches in the "lobby", and when I went to stand outside, there were roaches in the stairway and on the sidewalk.||||We ended up staying at the Holiday Inn on Market. Beautiful rooms, super clean, great front desk, breakfast available, and not one roach in site, in or outside. I would NEVER recommend the Suburban Extended Stay of Wilmington to anyone! ...
