I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! I usually take lots of photos of food and restaurants but somehow I have never taken a single photo here🤦🏼♀️I think that I'm too busy digging in to my food to remember to get a photo😁 My best friend lives in Wilmington and I vist frequently from Atlanta Georgia. We always plan multiple meals here-like dinner every other evening! My best friend loves the Tori Bowl with lots of grilled veggies and chicken and I LOVE the Mojo Bowl with the jalapeno cornbread, the best cornbread that I have ever eaten😋 it's so good that I started ordering an extra piece to take home with the leftovers from my Mojo Bowl😁The cornbread is very nicely crispy, almost charred on the outside-not burnt just a slightly dark flavorful color but the outside crispness is sooo nice and it's super moist on the inside with bits of jalapeno peppers but it's never super spicy which I appreciate because I don't love super hot spicy food. The food is definitely very generous amount at a reasonable price. They also have flavored lemonade which changes frequently, I want to say daily. Our personal favorite is blueberry basil but they only had it once during our last visit but it's delicious. We also enjoy sitting on the patio outside and it's covered with cloth sails which provides nice shade. It does overlook the parking lot so no sweeping views but it's just nice to be outside and it's pet friendly👍🏻❤️ This latest trip was the 1st time that we have gone for breakfast, I'm not sure why we have never had breakfast at Blue Surf but nevertheless it was our 1st time! I had the waffles and bacon and it was very delicious, probably not the healthiest option but...hey, I was on vacation 😂 my friend had a sandwich of eggs and something else, I can't remember because hers was a healthy option🤮😂 Well anyway don't hesitate to try Blue Surf Cafe because the staff is very friendly and helpful and the food is flavorful and a decent value so it won't...
Read moreI love breakfast. It's a long tradition for me, which I've partaken of with less frequency in the last few years, to grab a paper and let someone spoil me with eggs cooked well, hashbrowns done to a turn, perfectly toasted bread, and a side or two of a pork product. Beverage of choice, coffee (with cream, please). I feel sated in a way no other meal can provide. I was out with my son getting medical attention and knocking a few errands off my ever-expanding honey-do list, when the craving for breakfast arose. "Let's..." I said. "Ok... can we go to Jimbos?" said The Boy. He has found his own happy place at a Waffle House on College since getting his driver's license, and apparently isn't ready or willing to share his spot with me (I understand). Before finding Waffle House, he was obsessed with Jimbos chicken and waffles. Since we were driving north on Eastwood, I suggested Blue Surf. He agreed. I'm glad he did. The restaurant was largely empty, due to it being about 10:30 on a Monday. Other times I've been here I was with the entire family on a Saturday or Sunday morning, the place was packed, and the wait was long. This morning, we were quickly and enthusiastically welcomed, our order was taken, we received a wooden surfboard skeg with the number 1 on it, we fussed up our coffees, and took a seat. In short order, our plates were delivered. Some adjustments needed to be made: requisite preserves (they offered strawberry), and hot sauce. Sourdough toast was of the thick-cut variety. My plate had beautifully cooked sunny-up eggs, thick cut bacon, butterflied sausage, and cottage fries. Coffee was delicious. TVs placed around the room provided some distraction from The Boy's conversation surrounding his fascination for anime. All in all, a very good breakfast. I have most Mondays off; another visit to Blue Surf is on the...
Read moreI ate here for lunch for the first time. It was a Thursday in February, and it was not very crowded. This is the type of restaurant where you order at the counter, then sit down and the staff brings you your food. The lunch menu mainly consists of salads, burgers, and sandwiches, reasonably priced around $10-$14.
The restaurant is nicely designed and fairly open, with a beachy theme. It has a variety of table options to choose from (high tops, picnic tables, booth-type seats, and normal chair/table seating). The restaurant seemed fairly clean, although I noticed the window sills next to our table could use a good dusting.
The food was good. I had a black bean burger on a brioche bun, and my wife had a braised beef sandwich on a grilled ciabatta. There are a few sides to choose from, like garden salads chips, fruit, and potato salad. I had fresh fruit as a side and my wife had the salad - both were small and unremarkable. My burger was good, but the black bean center fell apart with my first bite, so it was messy to eat. I also noticed they didn't cut up the avocado (it was a full 1/4 avocado placed on the burger), so I sliced it up myself. My wife's sandwich looked good and she enjoyed it.
The service was prompt and friendly. I would definitely go back and try other items, since it seems like a well-run restaurant with good employees and decent food. Or I might go back for the brunch, which appears to be one of their...
