Ok I’ve read the reviews good and bad and the response from the hotel.|Hotels are like cars and houses no one ever seems to get every thing right and depending on whose designing them its what your stuck with. |Having said there is always room for improvement. |So this is a monstrosity of a building compared to anything else around.|Although it uses the softness of wood as its exterior design it definitely sticks out like a sore thumb due to its modern design compared to anything else around. |Its situated an a busy corner (5 roads) so you have the stopping and starting of vehicles and people here like all other places in South America struggle to drive with any manners and beeping of horns is common which is noticeable at times. |Decor is perfect with a traditional feel. No questions there and the decor is magnificent and beautiful throughout. 10/10|I don’t know this city at all as it’s a one night stay for me but I felt there wasn’t many places to walk to other than the seafront, a cinema and some places to eat, so keep that in mind. |I didn’t think the rooms were particular noisey or quiet. |I felt the room was slightly small considering a king suite and no bath so I wonder how small the other rooms were or maybe they are all similar sizes with different piece of furniture. I can’t comment on that.|Nothing for management to really reply to so far, it is what it is. |Gym as others have said looks lovely and other than the Pilates machine was not very functional as I saw someone else had stated the same.|Not sure if the manager is a gym goer but if they are they would understand the situation perfectly. It all depends if the hotel wants a functional gym then they should take note, or if they prefer a gym that’s fit for a magazine then it’s perfect. ||I feel the bed was a huge draw back for me and the worst thing by far. Just like the gym, it sure looks beautiful and inviting but the base protrudes out from the mattress and I stubbed my toes on more than one occasion which is still painful now. The mattress as people have commented have loved it and hated it. It’s the softest mattress I’ve ever laid on in my life and I’m in my 50s. I’m not huge (80kg) but your whole body sags in it and around you as others have said. For some this a dream from what I read but no good for anyone with bad back issues, so i slept on the floor. It should be noted it’s the 6th hotel I’ve stayed in on this trip and all the others were quite firm. Not sure how beds are selected in hotels I’d love to know! If I was starting my own hotel I’d try and cater for everyone which isnt easy but I’d pick a med to firm option.|It maybe a good idea for all hotels to have a couple of options but I’ve never seen that in any hotel as yet but you’d think it’s a sensible idea. Who ever specified this probably had there reasons, or maybe they had no clue on what they were selecting. ||It made me laugh how they spend all this money on fitting the hotel out and they have a Nespresso coffee machine in the room yet they’ve chosen to buy cheap imitation coffee capsules. |Never got to try the coffee as the machine was broken so I asked for a coffee to be brought to the room. |The lady expected me to pay for it but when I advised the machine didn’t work she said not to worry about it.||I question how well all staff members are communicating here. Probably not well. |Please make a coffee for room ??? Or please send a free coffee to room?? as their machine doesn’t work. It’s all in your delivery isn’t it and that makes a massive difference. ||Staff entered my room to leave chocolates after over cooking my steak which was a nice gesture but I wasn’t happy my room was entered while I was out. I didn’t think to put out not disturb so early after checking in. ||Which brings me to the restaurant, I waited 2 hours for the restaurant to open due to odd opening times of restaurants in this city. Not many places open before 7.00/8.00 pm. |My med rare steak was overcooked and ruined. |I can’t comment on any other meals, so not much else to say than sorry I suppose. |I was offered another try or a refund of my entire meal including wine so I left as I had a movie in was seeing. |That gets me to poor room service times. |You can’t get food other than snacks between 3.30 and 7.30. |Poor options on menus i thought although after 6pm some tapas is available on the top floor. |I don’t think my wifi was too fast either but not an issue as others had mentioned.|Breakfast - a good selections of fruit, cold meats and pastries. Also I was handed a menu to select hot options in the cost, with hot drink options and was called by my first name so a nice personal touch. These are items you pay for if your here for breakfast but are in the cost of the buffet. I read a review stating we couldn’t have more than one coffee and I think this refers to speciality made coffee such as latte but I was having many Americanos from the jug. This is pretty similar to other places, so I don’t have any complaints. Nice experience all round. |Full length mirror present. |Poor lighting in bathroom needs a makeup mirror for ladies. |Loved the fact it had a toilet brush but main room door missing a door stop.|So as you can see lots of things being well thought out and then things being missed .||Pros |Nice restaurants as in decor |Nice pool|Nice roof top area in summer months|Well presented throughout probably 2nd place on the hotels I’ve stayed in so 10 out of 10.|Mini bar great. |Red wine by the glass was lovely in ground floor restaurant. |Found rooms clean and romantic. |Great breakfast option.|Friendly helpful polite staff |Fantastic shower experience 10/10 but if they don’t remove and soap dish and clean the marble from the metals soap dish it will be ruined. Very clean shower and bathroom. |Power point in safe. ||Con’s for me |Room had poor lighting had to use torch to find things in suitcase.|Horrific bed as described|I think the hotel would perform from better chef or maybe a rib eye is hard to cook I’m not sure. |Toilet seat hard to open. |Noted a dog in the elevator I don’t think pets are a place for nice hotels, no matter how much you love your animal. ||To give an overview this hotel isn’t bad just some sloppy mistakes but like most things in life you only get one chance to excel. |It’s definitely impressive to look at and to be inside of , I found it clean in all places as in spotless and if you can cope with no gym a soft bed and the bit of traffic you can have a nice stay here for sure. ||My recommendations would be a change in the menu and food times, some rooms with harder beds and a real gym. |Consider health focused people maybe coming because if someone’s going to the point of finding something boutique then maybe there are treating their bodies in the same way. ||I think those few things would give this place a great improvement and I would have given it a 5, but who cares what I think. Haha ||I don’t think I’m coming to this city again but I’m sure this place is much better than most of the other options nearby. |Im giving this a 4/5 due to bed, gym and dinner experience. Hope this helps others and clears up some anomalies left with...
Read moreThe hotel is not situated in the downtown area, a fact that may be a good thing, but that is for each person do decide. We felt safe in the surrounding area and had great meals at a nearby restaurant.
This looks to be an early (think early 2000's) example of a "Boutique Hotel" where looks are everything and function is very low down on the priority list. However, from what we understand, the hotel is only a few years old. The rather small lobby is dark and artsy. There is a nice bar and a pool on the rooftop terrace, but no other common areas except for the onsite restaurant. The Hotel Montevideo must have spent a good deal of money on PR and marketing and we feel they do not live up to the hype and definitely not in running a hotel business. We wish we would have stayed at the Sofitel or another hotel that really knows what they are doing.
We booked the "Residence" as it was the hotel's biggest room and we felt like splurging a bit. The suite we were given proved to be no bigger than the "Executive suite". In fact, it was the exact same size but instead of a coffee table, a kitchen unit and a dining table was set up in front of the sofa. Very strange arrangement and, in our opinion, a bit deceitful since the area was supposed to be 72 sqm but was the same as the Executive suite which was marketed as being 60 sqm. We asked to change to the Executive Suite and was told that it would come at an extra charge even though we had booked the most expensive category (???!!). Eventually, the check-in staff realized the absurdity of this and...

From the first step inside, the staff made me feel welcome: warm, fluent in English, and genuinely helpful with recommendations. The entrance is modest, but once upstairs the atmosphere is pure luxury. Even the hallways tell you you’re in a five star property.
The room itself was stunning: a high quality modern keycard lock hints at the effort that went into this place, soft lighting throughout, and thoughtful décor. A gorgeous top of the line Samsung TV, a built in fridge and minibar drawer with high end snacks and teas, and an AC that cooled the room to perfect temperature within a minute. The balcony was a bonus.
The bathroom deserves special mention: marble everywhere, heavy brass fixtures with beautiful end-cap bolts, and a custom shower system unlike anything I’ve experienced in a hotel: water flow so rich it felt like a private hot waterfall. Drainage was flawless, and the almond cream smelling towels and bath mat were thick, soft, and high quality.
Finally, the bed: absolutely the best I’ve ever slept on. Cloud-soft topper, heavy luxurious sheets, and pillows that set a new bar. I’d rate it a perfect 10/10.
Heavy lamps, incredibly solid doors and furniture, if you check everything you'll see there is nothing that doesn't deserve the five star moniker.
An unforgettable stay,...
