Our chosen abode for the two nights in Monetvideo was the wonderful SORO, Curio Collection by Hilton.
Upon arrival into the boutique hotel, we were invited to take a seat to check-in. Once the process was complete, we were given the keys to our room and some vouchers for a welcome drink.
We had booked a King Bedroom with a river view. The room was spacious, particularly the bathroom and shower. All of it was super modern.
As a Hilton Honors Gold member, we received some lovely presented chocolates and a personalised welcome note.
In addition to the lovely room, the hotel also had a nice little gym on the top floor. The treadmills had a view of the sea. Up on the rooftop, there was a terraced area with a hot tub. From here you could see the beautiful and dramatic sunrises.
When we left the hotel, we handed back our welcome drink vouchers, which we hadn’t had chance to use. The receptionist kindly offered us some bottles of water to take on our trip.
On our first morning, we decided to take advantage of the free breakfast offered by the hotel (and one of the perks of Hilton Honors Gold). The Tomas Restaurant was located on the 1st Floor.
We asked for some fried eggs to be made. When they arrived, the bottom was crisped to perfection and the yolk was soft with a slight run, A great start to the day.
There was also a great selection of cakes on offer, which we couldn’t resist.
One of which was the crumbliest, most divine...

Upon check-in, we informed the front desk that it was our first time in Montevideo and with one night only, how should we best spend our time (nightlife, cocktails..etc.). She didn't offer any good options, and it was even more disappointing when we found out from our walking tour guy that we missed the “Museo en la noche” that took place on the one night we were in town - Dec. 8th.
As far as the hotel room goes - it was modern, but the decors were pretty run-of-the-mill. The shower was very nice, with strong water pressure. Our room was facing the back of the building (not much to see), and we didn’t receive any complimentary room upgrade. We did receive a welcome drink, pastry in the room, and breakfast for being a Diamond member.
There is a 24-hour small fitness center and an outdoor jacuzzi on the top floor. Even though we pre-booked a time slot for the jacuzzi at the front desk (as required by the hotel), the jacuzzi was still covered when we showed up.
The breakfast was adequate - it is your typical continental breakfast, plus deli meats and scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs were too salty for me, and I didn’t see any fresh vegetables. But they did provide freshly squeezed...
Read moreI recently enjoyed a 4 night stay at the Soro. The hotel and staff were so so kind. At the reception Alejandro, Johan, Vanessa were always ready to assist with any requests or recommendations. The restaurant Tomás always served a bountiful breakfast. Valentín, a server at Tomás was so kind. I also enjoyed a dinner at Tomás, the Fresh Catch of the Day fish was Corvina and it was prepared and presented to perfection. Hats off to the great chef at Tomás.| Giovana and Mariane with housekeeping kept my room clean and comfortable and provided face cloths as requested.| I loved the boutique atmosphere and friendliness of everyone at the Soro. This atmosphere made me felt very welcomed for my first time visiting Montevideo and Uruguay.| A tip for any future guests, within walking distance there are plenty of good restaurants. I enjoyed dinner at La Otra (a traditional Uruguayan grill) and Fellini (Italian,|Mediterranean cuisine). There is also a nice Fresh Market by Disco Supermercado nearby. The Soro is located in Pocitas a nice neighborhood. While at the Soro take a nice stroll on the Rambla. | The Soro is truly a gem...
