Really poor experience a the Dazzler. Stayed there for 4 nights with my family and honestly, it wasn't great. By the way, I live in London, but I'm originally from Uruguay hence know quite well that hotels scene has evolved a lot, there are some good ones, but unfortunately the Dazzler is not one of those. ||Rooms are good size and location is really good. Close to lots of shops, restaurants, shopping mall and also very well connected. I don't have breakfast but my family confirmed that it is quite good, with a nice range of options. From the positives, that's it.||SMELL - we entered our room there was a very strong foul smell coming from the bathroom. Really bad, almost unbearable. We had 2 rooms, and on the one where my kids were staying was the same. The cleaning lady was around and she told us that it was a "structural problem on all the rooms of the hotel". She said that if we want she could pour a specific product on the bidet to eliminate the smell, but also told us that the product was "extremely toxic" so we needed to have water running for 15 mins. We agreed to that. Smell was eliminated, for 2 days, then it was back. Really disgusting. Only this, is reason enough for not to stay here ever again.||AC - the air conditioning is not good. We had some very hot days in Montevideo and room was never nicely cold. One of their staff at the reception told us that we had to leave the room key-card in the device by the room entrance to enable electricity/power and leave the AC on all day to have the room cooled down in the evening. Challenge was that cleaning ladies removed the card from there every day and when challenged they said that they were told to do it to save electricity. It was really a joke.||ARGUMENTATIVE STAFF - when we had complains about the smell in the room, the temperature of the AC, etc, the staff was always argumentative and with a very arrogant attitude. Seems that some of them don't care about providing a real good service. I personally don't have breakfast, but usually like to have coffee in the morning. First day when I go to the breakfast area to grab a coffee and take it to the room, was told that I couldn't take coffee mugs from the restaurant to the room and that I needed to ask for a paper cup at reception. When there I asked for 2 because with hot coffee I was going to burn my hand. Staff at reception refused to give me a second one until I came with the coffee to the reception and asked the guy there to hold the coffee with his hand for 30 secs.....then he accepted to give me a second paper cup. Ridiculous attitude. This type of things, all the time.||DOOR LOCK - it happened 3 times to me and twice to my son that we couldn't open the room. Red flashing light on the door lock. We had to go down, ask for a new key to go back and open the door. For our surprise the response was that room key cards were fine and active and that we just needed to be careful when closing the room door because sometimes it gets blocked. (????)....so somehow it was my fault that doors were not working. One morning when trying to open the door, the cleaning lady was there, and she said that there were problems with the door locks on lots of rooms.||STATUS OF FACILITIES - to make it very simple, the hotel is in urgent need for maintenance. If they don't do it now, it will be an absolute disaster in 12 to 24 months. ||In summary, not a great experience. I would have expected much more, but definitely hotel didn't deliver. I understand that there could be issues, but when you combine it with the wrong attitude, it ends up being not good. No plans to stay...

Read moreThe Dazzler is located in a great area of Montevideo, surrounded by lots of restaurants and shops, and close to lovely tree-lined residential neighborhoods. The whole area is walkable. The beach and its Rambla are about 10 minutes away on foot. My room was comfortable and clean, with a nice bed. Housekeeping was excellent. I had a nice view of the street the hotel fronts on. The breakfast buffet is really nice. The gym is excellent, with lots of equipment, all new.||||Two things, though, make me give it only four stars rather than five. As other reviewers have mentioned, the room occasionally smelled of sewer gas. It was not horrible, and it was only part of the time, but it was there every day, at least for awhile. It was never an issue at night. The other thing was the shower. The first day it was no problem, but the remainder of the week I was there it was nearly impossible to control the water temperature. It was either scaldingly hot, or completely cold. The first day this happened, I splashed some water on myself with my hand and otherwise skipped the shower. The second time, with the shower still acting up, I was able to find a sweet spot between the two, but that was only in a tiny range of the movement of the control handle. I'm assuming this was a temporary problem, since everything worked fine the first day, but it was a...
