Hanoi Gecko Hotel — Hotel in Hà Nội

Would not recommend this cruise for anyone and least of all backpackers. For starters the bus was 2 hours late for the boat, which meant we lost time kayaking and seeing the beauty of Halong bay in the daylight. Also the people originally on our bus was taken to a different cruise, leaving me and my boyfriend away from anyone who could speak English. ||We thought this would be a social experience, we wouldn't have paid 65 dollars each to stay overnight if we knew there wouldn't be any other people in our age group. On top of that, we had to change rooms three times. The first room was flooded, leaving all our belongings completely soaked and water damaged after we returned from kayaking. The next room was riddled with bed bugs and I mean loadssssssss. We found small and big ones, and discovered several bites the day after. The next room was damp, smelling like mould but unfortunately we had to settle with this as there was no more beds. For 65 dollars per person, this is the most cheated I have ever felt after 4 months in Asia, especially when the people working on the boat feel no remorse or even seem to realise the gravity of the problem. ||When we complained to Gecko about this we got absolutely no compensation and the women we booked with blamed it on our choice of cruise, not the fact that the cruise company couldn't keep up to common standards. 65 dollars shouldn't buy you a body full of bed bug bited and wet belongings...! ||||Shortly after our complaint (that led absolutely nowhere) we overheard the lady try to sell a cruise to three other backpackers, using our personal experience to upsell more expensive cruises. ||As a whole, do NOT book any Halong Bay tours with Ocean Star Tours. If you do, make sure to NOT stay overnight...

Gecko hostel/hotel was the worst. We booked a private room online at gecko hostel and upon arrival we were transferred to gecko hotel because apparently thats where the private rooms are.. i was already disappointed because i read bad reviews about the hotel thats why we booked the hostel.. ||Anyhow it was already 12 at night upon arrival so we decided to take a room. It was the worst room i ve ever seen, walls are all wet and with clearly half of the wall full of fungus and the worst smell, bathroom supertiny, shower does nt work properly.. nothing like the pictures. I refused to sleep in that room and demanded another.. first they claimed to be full.. after showing them the state of the room they proposed another which didnt smell so bed, Still wasnt Very good and there was Still coffeee from the previous guests in the cups.. if it hadnt be 1 am we would have left!! ||Do not stay there its a rip off, there are plenty of places to stay in Hanoi. ||After confronting the lady who worked at the hostel How its possible that we booked a Nice room at the hostel and got a fungus room at the hotel, she looked Very surprised and claimed she had never seen the rooms in the hotel because she only works at the hostel. 2 days later we go to the hotel to pick up some luggage and the same woman is sitting in the front desk (you should have seen her face when we arrived there), anyhow i m sure she s aware that the rooms are terrible in the hotel. I stayed in Gecko Hang Bac 85 street for 2 nights. It is probably the best hostel I have ever stayed in for that price. We payed 17 USD per room per night with breakfast included.||The staff is very helpful, the breakfasts consists of fried eggs, bacon, fresh fruits, pancakes, toasts, jam, tea/coffee and a fresh smoothie!!!! The rooms are clean and they even clean them daily and leave you a bit of fresh fruits afterwards :) you also have a kettle and complimentary service of two bottles of water per day plus tea and coffee. ||On the second floor there is a Spa centre and for the their guests you can bargain the prices quite a lot. I rather preferred to give some tips afterwards. ||In the bar downstairs they have happy hour for the tiger beer, you pay one for 28,000 and get one free. The restaurant is cheap and the food quite good, the staff always smiling and polite. I...
