We arrived as a walk in from an overnight bus at 6am having spotted the guest house with good reviews on a booking engine. Approaching up the narrow alleyway in drizzle and early morning mist felt like stepping back in time to Victorian London! I woke the sleeping desk clerk who showed us a first floor room. It was small, seemed clean enough and had a small shared balcony overlooking a small courtyard with surrounding buildings. It’s off the road so no traffic noise but a little chatter from pot washers from an adjoining locals food stand. There was a fridge and a/c which wasn’t needed with the damp February air feeling quite Autumnal- we actually borrowed a fan heater. Location is good- 5 mins to the lake and plenty of restaurants all around. Beer street bars are a 10 minute walk. Shower had good pressure and hot water but bathroom floor never dried out. Bed was comfy. This isn’t a swish boutique hotel, it feels very much like a home stay with the owners eating and sleeping in reception. You are in an authentic Hanoi back street where people live and work so expect the sights and sounds that come with that. It’s also a bit quirky with owners belongings all over and a strange sleeping compartment accessed via a ladder above our room! For £15 a night in a central location in a major city though it served...
Read moreGreat accomodation - loved it so much that we stayed here twice! There’s staff are so incredibly lovely. They are available all night so are there to welcome you if you have a late arrive eg night bus. The AC is fab. Amazing central location. Views from 5th floor are awesome. Just be aware there’s no elevator in case you need it for accessibility. Plus there’s a bit of noise which is as to be expected from the central of Old Quarter.
Also be aware that the laundry service is questionable - we used it twice and the first time the clothes were returned damp with a few bleach stains and darkened whites, and the second time we had additional clothing that wasn’t ours! Not sure if it’s done by the hotel but maybe best to go elsewhere for that one (we saw one a few streets over for 20k/kg). Thanks...
Read moreI was bitten by bed bugs and wanted to check out after 1 night of my 2 night booking. I was not happy about having to pay for my first night and reached an impasse with the lady on reception. I was then trapped in the lobby and threatened by 2 female staff members and a man outside who was very aggressive. I really feared for my safety at this point and agreed to pay the 750K VND they were demanding just to escape the situation. To be clear they will not have sorted the bed bug issue as they were keen for me to cancel the booking, so they could offer the room out to someone else. AVOID...
