Sen Spa in the Old Quarter (Ng. Hang Hanh) is the original location and on their website they claim that there are some me-too shops trying to scam visitors in their „fake“ Sen Spa massage shops. This is a general thing I realised in Hanoi, there are so many copies and me-too shops whenever there is a successful shop, be it a restaurant, massage lounge or other successful business. Trademarks, Copyright etc seems to be a bit more relaxed in Vietnam. So, you have to keep your eyes open and be careful to get the original. But back to Sen Spa in Ng. Hang Hanh, it was an overall very positive experience. Prices were moderate compared to other shops and I did go to another massage shop in the same street but compared to Sen Spa it was more expensive at the same time the service was worse. At Sen Spa you can book your treatment via website in advance and after arriving you receive a welcome tea while waiting for your treatment. You also indicate how strong the massage should be and what parts of the body you want the massage to be focussed. Then you get called in and first get your feet washed and then you follow your masseuse to the treatment room. During my stay I have had 3 sessions one foot massage, one back & shoulder and one Aroma massage. All three are quite similar but with different focus areas. Meaning back & shoulder are not only those parts but also legs, arms, neck etc. but the focus lies on back & shoulder. Of course the quality of the massage depends on the masseuse, the first time my wife and I have Tam and Tho and we were both so amazed that we asked to them again in our second session. Luckily they were both on duty for our second session. For the third session one of the two was not available and I forgot to ask for the masseuse I had but she was also very good. They were working with hands, elbows, knees and feet to do the massage. I personally like the medium hard massages and if you feel during your massage the you want it harder or softer, you can tell them. Overall it was a really nice experience and if I was living in Hanoi I would visit on a regular basis. BTW if you go there during the week between 10am and 1pm you will get...
Read moreCam on Huyen for the foot massage. Cam on Nhung for the Vietnamese style body massage! The area of Old Quarter is full of places for massages and the majority of them have promotional banners on the street and staff trying to convince you to have massage at their shop. Sen Spa Hanoi is not like this! Sen Spa Hanoi is a professional safe place with respect to its customers, with a calm environment and kind staff. My experience was great. I totally recommend Vietnamese style massage (full body). I wasn’t familiar with massage in general, but Nhung made me feel really nice with the whole process.
If you are like me, with no previous experience on massage or you are afraid, please read this brief comment:
I totally recommend this place and please make sure to contact them prior to your visit and book an appointment. Extra tip: if you can’t have more Vietnamese food, there is nice Italian place (pizza 4ps) close to the spa. Treat your body and your belly...
Read moreReception area is nice and its clean. Basically thats what you’re paying for. They claim the massages done by therapists and assigned a woman who had no clue what she was supposed to do. During my 60min deep tissue massage, she spent 45 mins rubbing my back and shoulders without any expertise whatsoever! Her technique was quite like washing a car with a cloth and scrubbing on stains (in circular pattern) - thats the Therapy!
By 15mins it got boring then irritating and by 30mins it started hurting. When asked the ‘therapist’ lady to stop doing the repetitive technique she just pretended she doesn’t understand english. The last 15 mins she spent touching (just few taps) the feet, legs, hands. Thats it. I returned with an aching shoulder. And at the end the therapist spoke a few lines of english herself.
They put up a board saying 10% discount but I was denied that at the reception.
Basically the place has an upmarket look and ambience why they make you pay 300k - 500k for just 50k worth of actual massage.
Strongly recommend you check out other options around the city. I found many great reviews and had the worst experience and have come to think that they could be offering some discounts to people posting positive reviews. Ultimately your money...
