Stayed here for 4 days with my friends while visiting Hanoi. The location of the hotel makes it easy to access a lot of different parts of Hanoi by walking.
I’m a firm believer in what you pay for is what you get. We booked after seeing the reviews online as well as the photos. Other than the friendly staff, there’s not a lot of positives. To be clear, I’m not expecting westerner cleanliness.
The pictures and review online are very deceptive and not true. It was disappointing to say the least. Maybe that’s what the hotel looked like once upon a time but it certainly looks nothing like that now. This place looks nothing like the online photos. I’m certain the other five star reviews are fake and probably written well since the staff gets paid a bonus for encouraging customers to do so.
When we got into our hotel room, it was small and cramped. There was water bubble on the dry wall that looked like they’re going to burst. So water damage is an issue here. There’s dust everywhere and mold growing on every corner of the toilet room/ shower room/ sink area so it smelled very heavily of mildew. THERES ALSO ANTS CRAWLING AROUND THE TABLE EVERYWHERE. The blanket, if you could call it that, was a very thin sheet. The comforter that was in the closet was dirty and stained.
There was plenty of hot water, so that was a plus. Also they provided slippers to wear, which we ended up doing since we did not feel comfortable walking around barefoot.
Every single morning before we left the hotel room, we put turned the DO NOT DISTURB sign on as we did not want anyone to intrude our private space. But every day when we returned, our room had been cleaned and personal stuff has been moved around. Nothing was stolen as far as we know. Service wise, I’d probably give it a three star overall. Staff were great, provided me with whatever toiletries we asked for.
But I guess that’s what we paid for since it was considerably cheaper than the other hotels. If I was backpacking through Vietnam I probably won’t have a problem staying here. However, I will not be a returning customer if I ever visit Hanoi again.
Tip - if your tour bus provided you with the same brand of water bottle as the hotel, you have to let them know otherwise they will mistakenly charge it to your room. Keep the bottles in the mini fridge. This happened to us and we...
Read moreVisiting Vietnam for the first time, we picked this place in Hanoi and had a great time here. I'm traveling with 3 other friends and we got 3 superior double rooms, two of them got upgraded to deluxe (slightly bigger size) and with windows, not much to see here but still good to have. The bed is really comfy and the shower is warm, ac/heater is also good and strong enough, just make sure you leave your keycard in for at least 10 minutes before you shower so the water can heat up. The staff reached out to us a few weeks before we arrived to see if we needed anything and helped us book day tours to halong bay and hoa lu. I'd recommend the first one for sure if you're choosing between the two, second one was just alright - with a really long boat tour like an hour and half and then a bike ride to a temple/small cave. It's best if the weather's nice. They can also do tours to sapa if you're interested, it'll likely be cheaper than booking on your own… which is what we did since I wanted to try the sleeper train and bus and booked the hotel our own, when everything could be covered if you book with them directly. They also have different travel agencies around the old quarter if you want to bargain your own deals. Prices vary block by block, so make sure you compare before deciding. The staff here are very responsive to emails and provided tour information when we asked about it. I was talking to another friend and her hostel actually quoted a higher price than ours, but I did see other boards around that's with lower prices too so you'll have to walk around to find out! Breakfast is not included in our booking, so we didn't try it. There's a really good duck noodle soup across the street, probably one of the best meals/noodle soup I had so far (5-6 days in Vietnam and after having at least 10 bowls of pho from random places). Another recommendation from the staff was 49 bat dan (prob one of the best pho around!) with lines out the door. That's a few blocks away. Overall, I'd rate this place at 4.5 since its a bit out of the central area and some noise issue my friends had since their room was on the second floor, and bumping it up to 5 with the extra care and service we got. Read moreThis hotel sucks! We (family of 6, from SG) reached in the afternoon only to know that the rooms we’ve booked were UNAVAILABLE DUE TO SOME ELECTRICAL ISSUES! Receptionist only informed us when we hv made payment! To rectify the issue, she proposed to change our rooms (from family room to 2 deluxe rooms) at the same price BUT ONE OF THE ROOM HAD NO KEY SO THEY HAD TO WAIT FOR THE ‘PERSON TO MAKE NEW KEY’ arrive, meanwhile they told us to have one room first to put our luggages. Tired n hungry from our journey, we told her that we put our luggages and hunt for food. (We expected them to get our room ready by the time we come bck frm dinner) We went for food hunt, came back at around 8plus… “sorry, the person who make the key is not ready, he can only come at, maybe 9 or before 12am!” Tired and cranky, i negotiated wif her to have the rooms ready by 9 at least cos we hv morning bus to take us to SAPA (6am!) nope, she couldnt gv us definite answer to all our queries! Frustrated, i told her i want to cancel and give me at least half refund. Both didnt agree to the refund of cos! Instead they offered us 30% discount off the price we’ve paid. My children were tired, i didnt want to argue further. We just wanted to rest for the night and be ready for tomoro’s journey to SAPA. We accepted the 2 bedrooms offer just to end the night! Luckily the key to the other room reached us at 9! (On a bright side, the receptionist wasnt rude to us, she spoke to us in a confused state, which made me even more confused looking at her, like, ‘do u even know what u r doing?’ ) that confusion state made me cranky and frustrated! 1st- she didn’t inform us of our UNAVAILABLE ROOM when she could have reached us via whatsapp just like how she texted us all along before we reach the hotel. 2nd- the rooms, omg, the rooms are so small. Imagine my 2 sons are 1.76 of height, husb 1.9! My eldest 1.67. Youngest, 9yp. Itz cramp! Not worth the price paid for a rundown hotel! Does that even considered a HOTEL? 🙄 3rd- the rooms had ROACHES!!! Damn! That made me even pissed! Nope. Not recommended, not even for a short stay! No photos taken due to frustration! No mood to even snap photos of the...
