After looking at the photos and going through the reviews I decided to reserve a room at this hotel. I would be using this as my base during a 10 day stay in Hanoi.
I chose this hotel because of it's location on the outskirts of the Old Quarter and because they have non-smoking rooms which is important to me. There was also an option to choose a quiet room so I clicked that check box as well.
We arrived to a friendly greeting and were brought something to drink. A gentleman named Bob told us that if there was something we wanted to do while we were in Hanoi he could help arrange it for us. I knew that I wanted to do a 2 day 1 night Ha Long Bay cruise. He brought over several brochures with different cruise packages, after going over them I chose the one I wanted and told Bob when I would like to go. He arranged it and told me the day and time to wait in the lobby for the transportation to the bay. The whole thing went off without any problems. I ended up having Bob arrange one more local 1 day excursion and a flight from Hanoi to Hue and another flight from Da Nang to Saigon.
The hotel was nice, everything looks clean, there is a small dining room on the ground floor where you can have the breakfast that is included with the room. The entire staff was friendly and would always smile and greet you whether you were coming or going.
The room was small but comfortable, the bed was comfortable too. There were no windows in this room, I think it,s because of my quiet room request, if I have to trade a window for a quieter room I am fine with that. There is one negative with the the room however. The room butts up against a vertical shaft that runs the length of the building and it looks like all of the interior rooms are connected by this shaft. You wouldn't even know it was there if it wasn't for the fact that they decided to surround it with glass and even provide a small door that you can unlatch and push open into the shaft. One peace of glass has a covering on it that makes it opaque but will still allow light through. The problem is that your neighbor has the same thing in their room too, when they turn on their lights that light will come flooding into your room and there is nothing that you can do about it. You will even see the light from the rooms a floor above or below you. This shaft also acts as a conduit for sound, several times I heard voices that sounded like they were echoing up from the ground floor.
So in closing I thought it was a nice hotel at a reasonable price and the staff was top notch. Arranging activities was easy thanks to Bob. However that vertical shaft is somewhat of a deal...

I moved to this hotel on my last night in Hanoi. I chose it because of all the good reviews they had online. True enough, when I came, I was assisted by the hotel staff right away. The receptionist on that day (Mr. Tien) was so kind and accommodating. The hotel’s location was good as it was just a walking distance to a lot of restaurants and attractions. Amenities were fine. The rooms were ok. Obvious wear and tear but manageable. The walls are thin so I can hear the people talking or the music played in the next room. The breakfast spread was good.
While I was having breakfast, the assigned receptionist for that morning was very friendly and chatty. He went to talk to me multiple times when I was eating and I kindly responded. The last 2 times, he asked if I could put in a review about their hotel. I told him I was already planning to since I regularly contribute my reviews on the app or on google maps. I was just a bit ticked off when he came back for the last time to ask if I could do the review on the spot. I was having breakfast and was listening to my podcast so I politely but firmly told him I’m doing it on my free time. He politely backed off and was apologetic. I didn’t put it into mind.
However, the major turn off came when I was collecting some of my stuff in the afternoon as I left them during check out. There was this lady staff that approached me and asked how was my stay. I kindly answered it was fine and I didn’t have much problem with it. She was telling me that for the (verbatim) owner and investors to know how guests feel about their stay, she wanted me to write a review. I told her I was going to do it later. She became very pushy telling me she’d like to do it together, on the spot. She was saying like ‘you had a great time here right? so please write a review on Agoda. We can do it together.’ I told her that I have somewhere I need to be and she insisted that she’ll instead wait when I come back to take my things to the airport. At that point, my frustration was evident. I dislike being forced or rushed, especially when it comes to something I would normally do willingly on my own time. I told her I will write a review on my free time, when I don’t have anything in mind.
I do appreciate good hospitality but that was borderline pushy and forceful for me. If you want genuine feedback, asking or reminding once or twice is enough. While I had an okay experience at this hotel, the incident at the end did...
Read moreUnfortunately I can't share all the positive reviews for My Moon... My husband and I were quite excited about our stay there as it's not our usual type of accommodation ( we're more of backpacker type) so this was kind of a treat for us for our 1 year anniversary. 5 days before our stay I received an email that my credit card had been rejected and I updated it with new card and received a confirmation that everything is fine. On the day of our arrival at 10 am I received another email informing me that the booking is cancelled by the property as I haven't taken any actions for my rejected card. I called the hotel and they assured me that they still have my room and I'm welcomed to check in later in the afternoon. When we arrived they welcomed us with the news that they don't have an available room, but they would like to "upgrade" us to another room in different hotel. The second hotel was far from the old town (I booked My Moon because of the perfect location!). They tried to convince me that this is much better location, but it just wasn't my desired location. I complained that earlier on the phone they assured me that they still had my room, they couldn't give me any reasonable explanation. I refused to move. During the whole time I had the feeling that they're trying to scam me and this is a regular practice to move guests to another hotel, which is no so popular among the travellers. After raising my voice, it took them a minute to arrange everything and put us in the room I initially booked. This welcome left bitter taste in my mouth!
Apart from that the hotel is really beautiful and the rest of the staff we interact with were very friendly- especially Mr Henry at the reception. Great location as well. The room was nicely decorated, although...
