WARNING: DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL IN THE OLD QUARTER OF HANOI IF YOU DON'T WANT A NIGHTMARE EXPERIENCE! This place is a disaster, all because of the vile owner, the worst person I've ever encountered in Vietnam.
I booked a room in the afternoon and came back at night with a friend. The owner, with no explanation, aggressively refused to let my friend in, even when I offered to pay extra or book another room. His behavior was hostile and completely irrational.
So, we left to find another hotel for my friend. On our way to an other hotel, he canceled my reservation without warning. When I returned to confront him, he told me to pack up and get out. As I was getting my stuff, he locked the door and asked me to pay as if I had stayed the night.
This owner is a disgraceful, nasty individual who has no business running a hotel. The staff was really nice, and the rooms might be clean, but none of that matters when you’re treated like garbage by the owner, and not even being able to use your room
Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place like the plague. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL IN THE OLD QUARTER OF HANOI IF YOU VALUE YOUR SANITY AND WANT TO AVOID BEING MISTREATED AND SCAMMED!
EDIT (After the response of the owner): If you're the person who kicked me out, next time you do this to a customer, maybe give them a reason. You cancelled my reservation while we were out in order to find another hotel for my friend. I would have come back alone, as I had booked for 2 days You didn't even asks for her ID, and for the record, I already knew her. "Because this reason did not suit you, you left angrily" you actually didn't gave us any reason, and just kicked us at 2am
I'm not in Hanoï anymore, but I think that paying for a room I couldn't even used is more than enough
Anyway, thanks to the others persons in the staff, as they were...

I travel to Hanoi every two weeks to visit my long time girlfriend. Every hotel I have ever stayed it, her coming to visit and sometimes stay the night has never been a problem.
During my time at Joye hotel, she stayed with me one night. All was fine. I stayed at Joye again a few days later. My girlfriend came to my room to see me before we went out for dinner, around 7:30pm. All was fine, as usual.
We returned to the hotel a few hours later around 10pm, only to have the owner of this hotel start angrily verbally abusing her, demanding that she get out right now, because he didn’t know who she was?!
He was Fine with her staying a few nights earlier, fine with her visiting a few hours earlier, then randomly starts aggressively abusing her for no reason, demanding that she leaves immediately, forcing us to have to pay double by renting another room.
This was the rudest man I have encountered across my entire visit in ALL of Asia.
I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND LOOKING...
Read moreStayed here with my partner for 10 days to visit some relatives in town. The room was very clean and nice. It had everything we needed! We took a room in the back side of the hotel so we avoided the noise from the parties on the street. The location was great, right in old quarter so shops and restaurants are plenty. I gave 4 stars because the streets can get a bit crazy during the weekends when they close the street at night for pedestrians only. Not usually an issue as you can easily walk 2 blocks to get a taxi or grab.
This is a family run hotel and the owners were very accommodating and warm! My partner didnt speak any Vietnamese but they tried their best to communicate and help him while I was not there. They lost a bunch of staff during Covid but were still able to provide great customer service.
Overall a pleasant stay. We will for sure stay here when we come...
