Using fake pictures from the real rooftop hotel in the old quarter. I believe some of the reviews on here are meant for the fancy lighthouse hotel not here. We thought we were booking that one and realised very quickly when we arrived that it was not. The rooftop bar at this one doesn’t have a bar it’s just a small rooftop with no lights. The room we booked had mysterious stains on the bedsheets and lots of random things in it which made it feel very unfinished. We asked for a refund the next day for the next two nights we were supposed to be staying to which the manager told the receptionist that we had to pay a fee for getting stuck in their elevator. We got stuck in their elevator when we arrived the day before after a longs day travel. One of our bag straps got caught in the door as the elevator was so small and the doors shut very quickly. At the time no one told us of any charges and just kept apologising as we were stuck for an hour waiting for someone to get us out. So when the manager told us we had to pay over half the cost of two nights there for the elevator mechanic charge we asked to see the receipt and of course they didn’t have one. We ended up in a bargain deal with them basically having to beg for our refund for the next two nights. We ended up only getting some of our money back. The reason we couldn’t get a full refund was because they refuse card payments so we’d paid in cash and had no proof on booking.com that we had paid. Another reason not to stay… booking.com sent us an email that first night to say our booking had been cancelled as there was no record of our card payment. So not only did we want a refund for the state of the room but we also technically had no booking at the hotel anymore. All in all there are many other hotels in Hanoi that are much more professional, pay a little more to stay somewhere else as you’ll end up wasting money here. I would like to note that the receptionist was very lovely and kind it was just the manager that was making...
Read moreWe had a delightful stay at the Lighthouse Hotel in Hanoi. The location couldn’t have been better—it’s nestled in a more relaxed area with a distinct local vibe, yet still conveniently near the train station and right in the thick of the action.
We enjoyed this hotel so much we extended our stay and were fortunate that we were able to try out 3 different rooms including one with a balcony. All were great, though one thing we noticed was the higher up we went the weaker the wifi signal.
The staff were friendly, and the rooms were comfortable with great air conditioning and beautiful design and decoration. The beds are on the harder side which is common in Vietnam, but we still slept well and staff accommodated extra pillows for us. The only disappointment was the room was not serviced daily, leaving us having to seek out things like toilet paper and this is the only thing stopping us from giving Lighthhouse 5 stars.
We particularly enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere of the surrounding neighborhood and meeting the locals. They do advertise that it has a Rooftop Bar, but it’s currently not open and may still be under construction. A shame as the views from those levels were incredible!
Whether you’re a solo traveler or with family, this hotel offers a fantastic base for exploring Hanoi....
Read moreThe room I had was large, overlooking a local street where kids play at night and scooters use it as a cut through from the early hours. The balcony is not big enough to sit out, there's no daily room service and the 'rooftop bar' appears to be non functioning, but rather just a small space where you can sit, the photos of this part looking welcoming, lit up and lovely are very artfully taken to be honest, it's more a forgotten yard with some tables. Actual hotel noise (other guests, elevators etc) is minimal which is nice, and the street noise stops between 10/11pm - 6am, unlike being in the middle of the old quarter where it's 24/7. There's no local information available, no offer of tours, taxis etc, infact it's the only place I've stayed in my entire travels of Vietnam where the receptionist doesn't even look up when I entered/exited! I recommend you double check the distance between the hotel and the places/areas you want to visit before booking, and if you plan any group tours with a local meeting point or hotel collection, make sure to check, because this is outside the hotel collection perimeter and a 20+ minute walk to the meeting points, factor in meeting early and walking in the heat to the meeting point. Would I stay...
