That would be the 5th time I stayed with this hotel. The rates are not cheap. With the same rate, you can find different nice hotels in the same area and in the old quarter of Hanoi. I like its location. But the hotel's back rooms are SAD, and not worth the money you are paying. There is one elevator, but it's slow. The stairs are unbelievably narrow to walk up and down. The management is so bureaucratic. The front office manager cannot even be empowered to make decisions on rate or date adjustment or reservation to be cancel, modified, or even upgraded per guest requests. Unbelievable, especially when you need to hear from them within an hour, or hours. This manager must wait for the next one to make decisions. Three to four layers of management must be followed until you can hear from them. And, the responses are tight. You will not possibly like them. You are WARNED!!||||I asked them to cancel my reservation 3 days earlier. They said they cannot, coz it's non-refundable. Ok, I keep it. Then, on my arrival date, I contacted them to let them know that I will check in after midnight. They responded that they will wait for me. See what?! When I arrived at 1 am, the night receptionist said they were overbooked and must relocate me. Then he called around. Can you believe it? After such a long day, I waited for about 20 minutes while he called 4-5 different hotels, and notified the managing director, I would say, to HOPEFULLY get approval on if she would accept that rate. Tired, disappointed, and frustrated, I asked him to cancel my reservation. Then, he asked the director for approval. Now, they agreed to cxl my reservation. I was advised that I must contact the online agency to cancel it for refund. It was just TOO MUCH.||||How can you treat a loyal guest like that?||Personally, I would not stay in this hotel anymore. I found two other beautiful hotels in the old quarter, which are cheaper with friendlier staff and exactly the hotels and location I like.||||I was a hotel professional until 2020. I must tell you that they all have...
Read moreI was truly impressed with Minerva Church Hotel. The location is ideal, located in the old quarter and walking distance from a number of great places to see in Hanoi.
The service was the best I’ve received at any hotel in Vietnam, even better than at 5star hotels I’ve stayed at. The staff are excellent and care about every little detail of your stay, from the minute you arrive and even after you’ve already checked out they are wonderful and attentive to your comfort and enjoyment.
We booked on booking.com, on arrival we received welcome drinks and a complimentary room upgrade. Our room was on the small side but comfortably spacious and well laid out. The amenities were great and even the quality of the soap they provide is lovely. The rooms are clean and well looked after.
We dined at the restaurant downstairs and the food was delicious. The hotel breakfast provided a lovely selection of tasty food with a separate hot food menu that is prepared fresh, such as eggs, pancakes, etc. the hotel has delicious home made yoghurt and lovely fresh juices as well as a selection of teas and coffees.
In terms of overall facilities the hotel is a bit dated and limited to a spa, restaurant and rooftop terrace. The downstairs bathroom by the restaurant has seen better days. Initially I thought the tiles and countertops were dirty before I realised they had been stained by age but were in fact clean. I was honestly impressed by how clean everything was, it showed commitment and attention to detail.
While not the most luxurious or spacious, the Minerva Church Hotel offers great value for money and their service is beyond excellent. I would 100% recommend them to anyone and I am grateful to their incredible staff for making our...
Read moreThe hotel is ideally located: just one street behind the lake, right next to St Joseph Church, but in a quiet street (no noise at night – which seems unthinkable for a city as Hanoi, as bustling during the day). At the foot of the hotel, there are lovely cafes and restaurants, small shops. The area is perfect for staying right in the center of everything, but in peace and quiet. Everything can be done on foot from here.
The hotel itself is very beautiful, well-maintained, and the staff at the reception (especially LISA who was so helpful, very professional, full of great and so sweet, and the doorman KEVIN who was absolutely charming) are very kind, helpful, and attentive. We arrived at the hotel at 10:30 am and although check-in is at 2:00 pm, the staff made sure we could access our room at 11:30 am already.
We booked the St Joseph double room (on the 4th floor), and although the view of St Joseph Church is very limited, the tall green trees on the street rise right up to the large windows of the room, and it’s really very beautiful. In Hanoi, due to the very typical architecture of the narrow buildings, many hotels offer rooms without windows or overlooking an inner courtyard, but the Minerva Church Hotel offers large, beautiful windows! At night, there is no noise coming from the little street or even from the other rooms. The room and the bathroom with a bathtub are more than spacious and well-designed. The bedding is very comfortable. Tea, coffee, and bottled water are available for free, as well as a plate of fruit upon arrival.
Very good buffet breakfast with a choice of everything ! We can only recommend this hotel from all...
