My opinion of Starbucks is of a coffee chain that profits hugely on their past high end identity and branding to charge outrageous price for their coffee. In Vietnam, Starbucks strategy is the same as McDonalds: few locations, but focusing on premium products and same service as the states. The attempt is successful. Mostly high income tourist come to have a sip. But I have to give it to Starbucks, they do put the effort to reinvent themselves, with sustainable initiative of reusable product (compared to all plastic highland coffee) as well as their "Reserve roastery" twist, which is essentially a bar with everything coffee nerd like : Rare beans, minimalist display, Siphon, chemex etc. As well as great traceability and explanation. They have beans exclusive to Starbucks that other vietnamese specialty coffee don't, and it set them apart. A good surprise in this area.

how come every next visit is worse than the previous one? plastic forks for dine in, seriously? the capacity is greatly reduced and yet there’s no one to keep the venue clean upstairs. empty cups pile up and are being ignored by the stuff members even when they pass by. unfortunately customer service leaves a very unpleasant aftertaste. a beautiful and convenient location can compensate for some flaws, but the management keeps on testing the limits of their customers’ loyalty and passion for coffee. the employees have obviously been trained and want to do their best, as they often showed excellent attitude during my previous visits which were no less than delightful. thus the blame is to fall on the management who can’t take necessary actions in the time of hardship. i chose to upload those 2 pictures as they show rather a system, than a personal approach. no better idea than to serve a side cookie in an espresso paper cup? i would really like to hear back from the management of this venue, as my feedback can certainly be more useful than just writing a 3-star review. it is truly mesmerizing how great potential is being wasted over and over again. ty for the coffee though, it was nice

It was located near the old church of Hanoi and easy to find. There's a sidewalk area to park the motorbikes. When I was there the tables were almost full and it was quite hard to find a seat so I decided to sit next to the big window with a view of the street. One of the staff didn't speak English fluently. I sat near the counter so I could hear here ask her co-worker what "less ice" meant. I ordered a drink with less ice and more sugar. When I looked at the bill, I realized that the staff didn't note anything so my drink came out with no added sugar. I was surprised when I ordered a grande drink and my tumbler (493ml) was not full. I asked the staff, they told me that because I asked for less ice, my drink would not be full anymore. I checked and found out that there were only 2 ice cubes in my drink. It was the first time I had an experience like that in a Starbucks store.

What stands out for this branch is an reserve Starbucks. It has 2 counter, one serve you regular Starbucks item, one more lavish counter near the entrance serve up reserve selection. It's certainly more posh up than the average Starbucks. Opening timing is great from 7-11. Food choices are quite good. You probably could fill up your tummy here for all 3 meals. The crowd here are spilt between local and tourists. It's quite a noisy cafe due to the large local crowd gather here to chill and chit chat in the evenings. Prices here are consider high in local context. Standard Starbucks coffee serve here. However coffee selection is kind of interesting regarding the source of beans and methods of brewing in the reserve section. Overall it's neither good nor bad just an interesting outlet in the middle of old quarters.

The barista was very rude. Keep in mind, I worked for Starbucks for 3 years. I asked for filter coffee and she said they ran out without offering an alternative. "We ran out" that's all she said. At which point in the UK we always offer Americano for the same price. I ordered a short Americano. She said they ran out of short cups. At which point in the UK we ask the customer if Its okay to put a short in a tall cup. She didn't. This could be due to the fact that she doesn't speak English that well, but nevertheless, very poor customer service. And the place itself is very similar to the Starbucks Reserves in London, which is okay as that is the whole point of Starbucks in feeling at home away from home. They could definetely use a bit more Vietnamese character as the coffee in this Vietnam is so amazing.
