I recently had the chance to dine at Masala Art Indian Restaurant in Hanoi, and overall, it was an enjoyable experience with a few notable points.
To start, we ordered the Paneer Tikka, Fish Tikka, and Masala Papad. The starters were delicious, with the right balance of spices, offering a great introduction to the meal. Both the Paneer Tikka and Fish Tikka were flavorful, and the Masala Papad was a nice, crunchy addition to the meal.
For the main course, I took the recommendation of Mr. Ashish, who suggested Dal Tadka instead of the usual Dal Makhani, as it's a house specialty. While the Dal Tadka was decent, I didn’t find it to be anything extraordinary. It didn’t stand out as particularly special, and I felt it could have been prepared better with a bit more flavor.
The ambiance of the restaurant is decent, being located on the ground floor of a hotel. It’s a casual setting, but I did miss the presence of napkins on the table, which was a bit of a letdown. However, Mr. Ashish was thoughtful enough to provide me with a napkin personally since I tend to sweat a lot while eating — that level of attention to detail was appreciated.
In terms of service, Mr. Ashish was a standout. He was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made the experience more pleasant. His hospitality made a significant difference, elevating the overall service.
In conclusion, Masala Art offers a good dining experience, with flavorful starters and decent main courses. The lack of napkins and the less-than-impressive Dal Tadka left room for improvement, but the excellent service from Ashish made up for a lot of the shortcomings. Overall, it was an okay experience with some room for...
Read moreThere are a lot of positives about this place and a few negatives . The food is excellent with tasty food and great menu choices. If you have a western palate for Indian food you can’t go wrong . I had chicken tikka Masala , butter naan and rice . I noticed after I ordered that there is also a buffet , would have been nice to have been told about this or given as an option from the wait staff before i ordered . The restaurant has a really nice feel to it and is a really great setting . The staff were friendly and inviting. On the negative side papad is one padad for 35,000 which seems rather mean and expensive for one papad. I was dining alone so asked for just a half portion of rice as didn’t want to waste food and this wasn’t allowed and if you like a beer to go with your curry they only offer cans and no draft beer choices . The service was efficient but did have to ask a couple times for an extra drink But my main gripe was the bill at the end . On top of the menu prices you get hit with 10% tax , 8% vat and a 5% service …. That’s a chunky 23% on top of the menu prices . Not a huge problem if you are expecting it and it may be on the menu but i didn’t see it …but certainly something worth considering before you dine here . I would come back for the food but considering all the rave reviews just hoped for a...
Read moreOk, I was a little nervous based on the reviews which seemed overly positive but I am very pleasantly surprised. I decided to give this place a try since my previous preferred Indian restaurant has recently changed ownership after 15 years.
This was a 3 person business dinner. We spend roughly a but under $100 for a table packed full of food. A few apps, the meat kebab platter, several mains, a biryani, and two types of naan.
I would say all the dishes except for one were good to excellent. The one dish that was disappointing was the palak paneer which was still ok but it was incredibly bland. I like palak paneer so I was not expecting it to be some huge flavor explosion because it's a simple white cheese with creamed spinach but I expect it to have some flavor and good palak paneer usually has a creamy but subtle richness to it. This palak paneer was flavorless. The manchurian cauliflower app was not what I would consider an Indian dish but it was really good. The rest of the dishes were yummy and more traditional (not that I would know) compared to what I have had at other Indian places.
I will happily return there in the future.
Service was fast...
