Update 16th September 2025: The Doctor is currently half an hour late and HotDoc is asking me to review an appointment I have not had.
Update: 7 July 2025 regarding telehealth. I recieved a call that rang for 3 rings and hung up. I rang the clinic back and was told "the doctors on the phone so he must be calling you back". That was 1 hour ago and I recieved no callback, nor have I spoken to any doctor. The surgery is now closed.
I retract my 5 star rating after 1 year - this place has become atrocious.
2017 - They have no compassion for the disabled, they don't care if you warn them your child is highly disabled and Autistic to boot and you need to get in QUICK to avoid destruction or injury.
Other Doctors Surgeries normally help their patients, but it's always hit and miss with this one now. The more EXCEPTIONAL Doctors have left, but some "good" ones are still present (there's some atrocious new ones to watch out for) and you just have to pray that you get one of the "good" Doctors when you're sick.
They'll make you wait past your appointment time surrounded by people in a small waiting room (bad for an adult autistic but potentially dangerous when a child with severe autism and other disabilities is also involved). Multiple triggers you warned them about trigger autistic meltdown in your child (as reception were warned before you even arrived that this would happen) and the receptionists will just sit there passively and ignore your child harming you and himself in a full blown Autistic Meltdown while you desperately try and protect any pregnant women or elderly people trying to move past you in that tiny waiting room. When dealing with a family with disabilities, you would not expect for situations to deteriorate like that without any form of assistance being rendered by staff - such as originally seating the parent and child in the other waiting room AWAY from people, but it's quite clear that the safety and well being of their clients is not too high of a priority. It was once though.
If you go outside due to lack of indoor seating- they'll forget to call you so that's no help either.
Outside you can sit on the ONE bench available in full sunlight RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROAD which is really not great for families or people trying to avoid skin cancer from the sun.
If you need repeat scripts, don't expect them to listen or remember to tick that it's on the PBS. You'll normally leave with a useless script and have to go back and wait 4 hours before you can have another appointment to get it fixed.
If you need to a see a doctor quick for "basic stuff" then the wait can be up to an hour as only 1 doctor may be working to attend scheduled/unscheduled patients.
2023 I will call this Doctor "ANONYMOUS Dr". I had ANON Dr call me to tell me I'm 5 weeks pregnant only to say "Whoops, I opened the wrong file".
2023 I had a ANON Dr enjoy a lengthy phone call during my appointment about "Kathy" who had liver cirrhosis from alcohol abuse and had turned up to 5 appointments "with the smell of alcohol on her breath" and apparently "Kathy" will not get onto the NDIS until she stops drinking. I don't think I should be hearing this during my appointment asking for an X-Ray on my spine.
The ANON Dr then hung up and dismissed me from that appointment and I left with a CT Scan instead FOR MY NECK.
Positives?
You can see a doctor without an appointment - just bring your medicare card and healthcare card.
There is still a unisex toilet in the doctors, but it is still not wheel chair accessible.
Cyprus Avenue bus and light rail stop will get you five minutes away walking distance, which is important if you want to avoid finding parking in Surfers.
The Doctors work different days so its just very hard to be sick ONLY on the days they work - so good luck using a "regular" family doctor :/
This place had hope once, but now it's just a disappointment.
I only go there as kids can get sick outside of business hours and there's a 24/7 chemist nearby, otherwise I'd treat myself and my child to...
Read moreI went to this clinic today to see a doctor about pain I am having after a concussion that occurred 3 months ago and needed help as I was still worried why I am having pain. The Doctor I saw - Dr. Shakib Syed was absolutely a horrendous monster and should be ashamed of how he treated me. I asked about getting any possible scans to see if there was anything that can be seen that weren't caught by a previous CT scan- he instantly became rude, defensive, and aggressive, became condescending and agitated and asking me what I was trying to find and why I want to expose myself to radiation. I told him I had anxiety because the pain was still present and just wanted some piece of mind this will go away. He said in the world of medicine there is no peace of mind. Then he said to me "Patients like you are nightmare patients and make our job difficult" ....I was absolutely baffled. I told him I suffer from anxiety, and he became more aggressive and then said I didn’t care what he said I was probably just going to go to another doctor anyway. I told him it was not okay to talk to me like that, -he made a sneering face and continued to accuse me of not listening to him. It was completely bizarre and strange because I was listening to him and trying to clarify what he was saying ... I tried to explain as calmly as I could that I was there because I was in pain. He said "you can still eat, you can still talk, so there is no problem- it must be soft tissue and you can go see a dentist." This man is an absolute horrible monster and evil person and should not be able to see people. The way he acted was insane, he caused me to have a panic attack and i tried to be as nice and kind as possible telling him I was listening, and I had no idea why he was saying that. He continued to become argumentative, angry and aggressive. I left his office bewildered, my heart pounding and nearly in tears. I have PTSD which he should have on record, and I will be reporting this doctor to the Office of the Health Ombudsman and seeking legal guidance if anything can be done to report this "doctor" as dangerous...
Read moreI am writing this review while sitting in the clinic with my partner, who is extremely sick. From her voice alone, it was clear that she was unwell and needed immediate medical attention. However, the receptionist—who appeared to be either European or Latin American—was the rudest and most unhelpful person we have ever encountered.
When we first asked for an appointment for today, she immediately said that they were fully booked, despite the clinic only having about five patients at the time. We then asked if we could book an appointment for tomorrow, but instead of responding, she made us wait for 15 minutes while she remained on a phone call, speaking in her own language. She showed no willingness to assist us and barely acknowledged our presence.
Since this was our first visit to the clinic, my partner needed to complete the registration process. Shockingly, the receptionist handled the entire registration while still on the phone, barely paying any attention to us. What made this situation even worse was that we noticed she was extremely polite and accommodating to patients from her own country and to Australians. However, when it came to us, she was dismissive, rude, and completely unhelpful—her behavior was nothing short of discriminatory.
To make matters worse, as we sat there, we saw several other patients walk in after us, and the same receptionist willingly took them in without any hesitation, despite initially telling us that the clinic was fully booked. This made it very clear that her treatment towards us was not because of availability but rather because of bias.
Eventually, she did book an appointment for my partner today, but she didn’t even bother to inform us. We only found out when we asked again. Her lack of communication and professionalism was appalling.
No patient—especially someone who is visibly sick—should be treated this way. This was by far the worst experience we have had at any clinic in the Gold Coast. I would strongly advise others to avoid this place if they expect basic respect and professionalism...
