Booked a table for our family of 7 (5 kids 7-17yrs) where we were seated adjacent the bar directly in front of opened l, double front doors. We were also directly in front of the table water dispenser and glasses. Patrons either had to squeeze behind us or reach over the corner of the bar to get their water. I ordered 2 Black Russians at the bar and neither of the bar staff had any idea what I was talking about. I explained 1 shot Kahlua, 1 shot vodka in a glass of coke, I was met with a disgusted look as if I was joking and I said “if you’re not sure or don’t believe me you can look it up if you like.” After I reassured her that’s what I wanted, The bar girl then said “you’re gonna have to pay for all those shots”. I politely smiled and said that the cost wasn’t a problem. Meals were ordered at the bar and collected at the pass over by us when the buzzer sounded. All the food was served in small portions. Dry chicken and almost zero Caesar dressing on the Caesar salads. Small chicken schnitzel on a small handful of chips with briny salad. Burgers also served with only a small handful of chips. Kids nuggets and chips were 5 Dino nuggets and a few chips in a small bowl. No sooner had we finished eating, one of the staff zoomed in to clear our table into a basket lined with a plastic bag, to whom we passed our plates. Disappointed with both the service and...
Read moreI recently visited the Clock Hotel in Surfers Paradise. While the experience wasn’t perfect, there were definitely some highlights. The best parts were the iconic clock tower, which adds great character and charm to the place, and the outdoor seating area, which is spacious and pleasant—perfect for enjoying a drink or meal on a nice day.
That said, the service was disappointing. When we arrived, the staff seemed inattentive and didn’t come over to serve us. We had to go to the bar ourselves to place our order, which felt frustrating and unwelcoming. It seemed like they weren’t very engaged with guests, which took away from the overall experience.
The menu was average, with decent but nothing spectacular flavors. Considering the price, I felt the value for money. Portions were okay but the taste didn’t stand out much.
The atmosphere is casual and the outdoor seating helps make up for some of the indoor shortcomings. With better service and more attention to guests, this place could be much better.
Overall, the Clock Hotel has good bones—great location, unique clock tower, and nice outdoor space—but it needs to improve staff attentiveness and food quality to match. For now, it’s a mixed bag; worth a visit if you want to enjoy the outdoor area, but don’t expect top-notch service or...
Read moreAte again 15 Sept 2022, had chicken schnitzel & plain gravy, it appears store bought schnitzel, the crumb too thick for me, the gravy oversalted, cheap store bought, the chips are like they were recooked, tasted stale, not crisp and again bloody rocket, but this time the schnitzel with salad $21 plus drink paid $27.50, just not up to scratch. How hard is it to serve at least decent chips, FFS, and rocket, really !!
Previous review: Today I had the chicken schnitzel, just average, paid for the salad, I should have asked what was in it, I hate rocket & didn't get much else, but the worst part was the very, very over salted chips. The best part of the meal was my lemon lime & bitters. I thought it was a special price, but paid extra for the salad, all up $22 including the drink and normal gravy, just not worth it,...
