An overated lounge.
Access to the Qantas First Lounge Melbourne is quite simple: the passenger needs to be flying First Class on a Oneworld carrier, or have Platinum Status with a Oneworld carrier. I was traveling business class on Qatar Airways and enjoy Platinum status with said carrier.
This lounge is considered the highest category for Qantas and Oneworld guests.
I spent about three hours at this lounge, long enough to order a meal at the restaurant, take a shower and relax before my Qatar Airways flight.
Amenities:
This lounge offers showers and bathroom suites, and a Spa area with complimentary treatments ( which I didn't use).
Full-service restaurant area with bar.
I think it's worthwhile to mention that I had to go to the restaurant area to request service. A couple of minutes later, I ordered a menu item. The food (Korean brisket) was tasty and visually appealing, but not extraordinary.
There was a different person serving drinks and she was lovely and attentive.
The restaurant staff performed their duties in a perfunctory manner.
Having mentioned that I have Platinum status with Qatar Airways, this Qantas FC lounge is fairly average compared to the gorgeous FC lounge in Doha, for Qatar Airways (Al Safwa).
The food at this Qantas lounge is average and the facilities are average.
In the lounge section, I enjoyed the separate...
Read moreMy favourite lounge at Melbourne Airport. I love being served by people who truly enjoy serving and creating a very hospitable space for you to decompress before your long flight.
The restaurant environment in which to enjoy some very good food and beverages make you feel special, and the First class lounge should be about special.
You will be very thankful, If you are lucky enough to be able to get a massage or facial to truely prepare you for that exhausting long haul flight ahead.
Although mostly excellent, there have been a few times of late when the food quality has dropped (which I think is true across all the food offerings of Qantas). Excellent Premium Champaign that has come to the table warm and had to go back.. And too often that one or two guests who think it's ok to talk on their phones at the top of their voice, or even worse that person who thinks a video call in the middle of the lounge with their speakers turned up is ok. So it's inconsistent and seems to be dropping in quality - but lets see what happens next. All in all its a very good lounge - but not as...
Read moreOnly after checking in and dropping off the luggage for my flight back to Perth after attending Perioperative Medicine Conference and Diploma Instructor course for the last 4 days, I received a message that my flight is delayed. As I have to work early tomorrow, I am planning for an on-time arrival at night. As I have dropped off my luggage, I have no choice but to stick with Qantas and unable to pick up a timely departing alternative flight. I went to Qantas lounge and was barricaded by an unpleasant front reception staff who looked at me and declined the lounge access despite of me telling her clearly that I am paying for the launge use. A male service officer who identified himself as Duty officer with an ASIC card tag name of Glenn came out and treated me in the same un polite manner and told me to leave the front of lounge. Qantas is getting worse in customer relations and service and todayâs behaviour I have received from that two staffs was pretty shocking and concerning. Attaching my Boarding pass for reference so that they can retrain or replace...
