South Melbourne Market Organics — Local services in Melbourne

Only (full) organic produce store in South Melb Market. Why? Limited fresh fruit & vegies i.e. not a huge range, but you can definitely put a meal together. Unfortunately its obvious turnover isn't high (Market is only open 4 days a week) so the quality does suffer and you need to pick over the vegies to ensure you get the more fresh version. Pricing is very high compared to the organics stores at Vic Market and at the farmers markets around Melbourne, but that's probably a function of low turnover and therefore high waste. There is a selection of local baked breads, seeds & nuts and also cereals and canned goods and flour and rice, etc, etc. Also cheeses, tofu's, milk and other cold goods. Small selection but worth checking if you need something specifically. Once again, the prices exceed competitors like Vic Market stalls, Leo's, Toscano's and Oasis. It's fine if you just need a couple of items but wouldn't do a weekly organic shop here. Staff are pleasant...

Worst customer service ever! The white lady who served us was unbelievable. I’ve been a regular at South Melbourne Market, but this visit was disappointing. We paid $5.99 with a $2 coin and $5 note, then gave the lady a $1 coin (we just realised we had $1 and was not busy), thinking it’d save her from giving change. Instead of politely explaining or saying ‘no’, she rolled her eyes, which made us feel uncomfortable. We’ve always enjoyed the market, but this kind of service was off-putting (fruit wasn’t even fresh). Great deals and I come here every week BUT every single time they overcharge me because the staff assume that it’s full priced item and not a sale item. It shouldn’t be my job to check every single time if I got overcharged. Guys please train your staff to ask if the customer picked veggies from specials and not just assume and apply the full price, it’s truly very frustrating or mark the loose items with price tag on it. It has happened to me every single time. Hence why I’m giving 3 stars instead of five. Really hope the management reads my review! Otherwise I love this shop, great fresh range with the best...
