I have been buying cheese from Theo’s deli for years but had a couple of bad experiences there:
Once I left a block of fig paste there and called them. My claim was immediately dismissed and no help offered
On the other occasions I bought a piece of French herb Brie cheese. When I came back home and opened it, it was absolutely clear to me that the cheese passed its best before date and was inedible. It was sold as SPECIAL. As it was a piece of less than $15 I didn’t bother driving back to return it. I did, however let the owners know few weeks after when I was at the market next. No apology, no help was offered.
What took a cake however happened in December 2017. I bought half of Edam cheese. I opened it a couple of days after the purchase. The cheese was absolutely rotten. It was bitter, and slimy under the wax. I took a photo of it and threw it away. It was truly disgusting. Nothing like Edam should be: smooth and buttery.
When I went to the market three weeks after that purchase I spoke to the owner and let him know he sells cheese which is DEFINITELY off. I showed him the photo and said I don’t want a refund. I just wanted him to stop selling cheese which should not be sold . Someone will get poisoned one day.
The owner got really angry with me (he threw a couple of f bombs), he suggested I am making it up and if I want him to believe it, I should bring the cheese back.
Once again, there was no apology, no remedy offered.
Unfortunately the attitude of the deli owner was even more stinky than the cheese he sold to me.
I will definitely not be returning to Theo’s Deli. There are plenty of wonderful merchants at the market. I will rather spend my money with them.
And please do smell the cheese you buy from Theo’s because the chances are it is off. Especially pieces...
Read moreI received a gorgeous grazing gift hamper from Theo's Deli last week. My family and I shared the wonderful goodies and I cannot describe how beautiful it all was. We loved it so much that I have just ordered 2 hampers for some special people in my life. I will also be ordering more for the upcoming football finals and racing season for us to have - either celebrating at home or hopefully with family and friends (dependent on the lockdown restrictions). I thoroughly recommend Theo's Deli! The quality of the food is exceptional, and the customer service is also excellent, second to none! Thankyou Theo's Deli, especially the...
Read moreThis is a difficult review to post because I have always loved Theos Deli at the South Melbourne market. The food is amazing.
This all changed for me yesterday Wednesday 15th May when I encountered the rudest service I have ever received in my life. When I asked for a small tub of beetroot dip the daggers I received from the 20’s something guy almost made me just walk away immediately. I’m really sorry to have inconvenienced you mate. Then when I asked for some sourdough bread it was like it was way too difficult for him. No thank you, no niceties, no customer service whatsoever. Disgraceful behavior from...
