Positive: I appreciate the service provided by the friendly volunteers and staff at OzHarvest. They are truly dedicated to a good cause, helping many people in need.
Negative: A few weeks ago, I had an unfortunate experience with one of the Asian elder female volunteers who had short hair. While I understand that some people may try to abuse the system, it’s essential to treat everyone with respect. There is sign that be nice to the people who work there, but there should be respect to people who reach out for help.I lost my card and stopped visiting for a few months .Due to unemployment and inflation,i visited again. I only visit when i feel life is too hard. I explained this to the lady that I lost my card, she repeated said i have visited a few days ago.I told her i did not and I lost my card. She rolled her eyes and said "They always say that".Her dismissive attitude hurt, especially during challenging times. The OzHarvest card was designed to make things easier without requiring ID, but it seems there’s room for improvement. Perhaps taking an extra minute to verify ID or age would be beneficial.
Suggestion: Considering the high demand for assistance, especially in a city location like this, I propose implementing a more thorough ID or age verification process. Although the OzHarvest card was designed for convenience, it lacks a name or photo display and doesn’t offer a replacement option for accidental losses. Enhancing the system would prevent further hurt feelings and ensure a more compassionate experience for all. Let’s continue supporting one another during these...
Read moreI had the privilege of visiting OzHarvest Market in Waterloo, and I can honestly say it was an experience that left me feeling deeply grateful. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of the volunteers was so evident, and it was clear that everyone at the market genuinely cares about the community. Special mention to my caseworker, Katrina, whose kind, thoughtful approach truly made a difference in my visit. She went above and beyond to make sure I was well taken care of, and her support means more than words can express.
The market itself is such a wonderful initiative. The variety of fresh produce and quality items available is impressive, and I truly admire how OzHarvest is not just about providing food but is also committed to sustainability, reducing waste, and making a positive impact on the world. The way they bring people together in support of one another is something that truly inspires me.
To add to the excitement, I was fortunate enough to be there when King Charles III made a visit. It was such an unexpected and humbling moment, and the atmosphere was truly electric. But even beyond the special occasion, it’s the everyday kindness, generosity, and community spirit that really set this place apart. OzHarvest Market is not just a market; it’s a place where you feel seen, supported, and part of something greater. I can’t thank everyone enough for making my visit so meaningful, and I will definitely be back. If you haven’t been, I highly encourage you to check it out—you...
Read moreAmazing and vital service. The staff are fantastic and the food is varied but there are always fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, pasta, eggs, cereal, rice, sugar, flour, tea bags, canned soup/vegetables and a prepared frozen meal (with vegetarian option as well). Allowed one shop per week. Below is a picture of what I received today and an example of the card they give you that limits you to know shop per week.. sometimes you have to wait up to 30 minutes as there is a long line of people/families/elderly struggling to make ends meet, but it's worth the wait and the staff and volunteers are incredible and courteous. Bring your own bag if you can, and some identification so you can get a card. Makes things easier and doesn't hold up the rest...
