I had the best time at the Forging class last Sunday. The historic building complete with magnificent old machinery was in itself exciting and a fantastic space for the workshop. James was a calm, patient and very knowledgeable teacher that came with the added bonus of having a great sense of humour. The 7 hour day was packed with so much hands on as we learnt to forge our individual hammer where we were able to choose individual patterns. I’m really proud of my hammer and it has been put to good use already, and I’m sure it will be a family heirloom for future generations. The class size was perfect with just 8 students which was a great size so we all got plenty of assistance and guidance from James. I went with other family members and it will always be a cherished bonding family experience. If you are thinking of enrolling for a forging day, yes just do it, you won’t be...
Read moreWhat an experience! I did the two day course at Eveleigh Works for the into to blacksmithing and loved it. The site itself has a lot of historical significance to Australia's building & manufacturing and still includes operational machines from yesteryear. Our instructor, James, was very knowledgeable and most importantly, knew how to connect with all age groups there. We never felt rushed by James and he made sure we learnt the main principles of blacksmithing along with hints & tips from his years of experience. If you're on the fence about taking this class, just take the jump. You won't regret it. Thank you Eveleigh Works and James for teaching me life long skills and a new...
Read moreI attended the two day knife making course (mid 2024) and cannot recommend it highly enough. The class size was small (four people in total), and Matt, our instructor, was great - knowledge and extremely approachable, and willing to take the time with each of us to get the best result possible. The knife we made came out exceptionally well. I started the course an absolute beginner (closest I'd been to a forge was a barbecue), and I left feeling like I understood the basic blade smithing process sufficiently well to have a go on my own.
On top of all that, the space is amazing, and getting a close up look at the heritage listed machinery...
