Blumenwiese — Restaurant in Vienna

did my first run along the canal today and went by this place. gorgeous sunny blue sky day in vienna, and there are quite a few eatery/lounging places along the east side of the danube canal. but this one looked most put together not to mention when i saw the sign "burgers" i told myself "yup it is our kind of place. and we are coming back here after my run and my husband's bike ride" so we did. lovely lovely spot to spend afternoon hours in in the sun (almost too bright and warm! 🤣🤣) and have some comfort food! we ordered beer and apricot prosecco, cheese burgers and tijuana picante. i was impressed with the presentation when our plates arrived! they were beautiful! i especially appreciated the nice touch such as pseudo newspaper wrap for the burgers and mayo served in a little glass jar! i did not expect a little water front place to be this dressed up! of course the food was excellent! and reasonably priced! as americans, we always tell each other that if there is such thing as "american cuisine" it would be hamburger! few other countries in the world know how to do burgers like we do! so we almost never order burgers when we travel in EU. burgers at this place are good, tasty but different thanks to the cheese and sauce they use! great vienna experience! (i honestly cannot fanthom the complaints about not finding seats, slow service or high price! of course price is totally subjective - it all depends one's budget! lol but all prices are cleanly printed out! you can always read before you decide...

Opened on 20 April for 2023, or so they told us. That's apparently the reason for why service was so abysmal. I tried ordering at the bar, but was told it was table service only - which would have been fine if the waiters weren't so useless. There was no menus available, for anything - again we were told it was opening day. So, get it together, then?

As the sun was out in full and the weather was warm, all would have been forgiven if there was a decent selection but alas there was a choice of two similar beers and a few overpriced cocktails.

Fine. Beer it is. In the end I attempted to pay our bill for so long that I very nearly walked out without paying. I had to wrangle someone in the end to pay the tab, which is ridiculous. Even my much more patient partner was inclined to leave without paying.

When the sun is out, just do yourself a favour and go to the bar elevated...

Service at the bar was very friendly and the bar looks good. But that was all. We ordered drinks and set down infront of the bar, as soon as it started pouring we moved in the sheltered bar area and sat down at one of the tables. Very soon after the barkeeper kicked us out because that area is for "table customers" only. They didnt care that we had ordered from them just a few minutes before and were still consuming their drinks.

Very greedy bar.

Also what we didnt really understand was that we could only give back the cups at the bar area where we ordered them even though they operate two bars under the same name at rhe same spot. So it was quite annoying waiting twice 5 min to give back the cups and get...
