We were given a voucher and so we tried it out. To put it briefly: main dishes (steak and burger, both with fries) were good. Service and desserts not.
Here is why:
As we entered around 2 p.m. on a Friday during holiday season there were only an few tables occupied. We wanted to sit on a regular table, the waiter offered us one table with poor chairs or a high table with bar stools, although there were 4 free regular tables right behind us and I would guess 50 more in the whole restaurant. He wouldn't explain why we can't choose for ourselves, which doesn't make a good first impression when you enter a restaurant. Especially since my companion is very tall and would have preferred a more comfortable seating option. The food was served by another waiter who was not able to serve our order correctly right away (he wanted to serve it at the next table), although there were exactly 3 tables occupied in the restaurant, including ours....
The desserts were/ to quote Frank Zappa/"cheesy, but nicely displayed." They tasted exactly like little cakes that you buy frozen at the discount store and then thaw when needed and jazz up with ice cream, fruit and jam. Mine was described as chocolate hazelnut tart on the menu and was Choux pastry with Nutella on it. They added raspberries, blueberries, vanilla sauce and cherry ice cream(?), which didn't blend particularly well with the raspberries and the rest. Why? We "spent" about € 120,- for two main courses, 2 desserts, two non alcoholic drinks and two coffees, which is - considered overall - rather expensive for Austrian standards. Sorry guys, although the steak was really good, I've eaten much better food at places with politer and more...
After a long walk around the city, me and my friend started to feel cold and hungry. We wanted to spend the end of the evening in a fancy restaurant and we just found this one. We could see from the outside that most of the tables were empty, with no guest sitting there. We entered the restaurant and wanted to choose one place to sit and order something for dinner. We were welcomed by fakely polite Austrian guy who said that all those empty tables were already reserved - what a lie! We asked if he could find just one empty table for two people because we wanted to have some nice dinner there and he offered us to sit on the bar stools. We said that we don't want to eat from the bar stools and the guy just gave us fakely polite smile and said "I'm sorry girls, that's everything we can offer to you". We left the restaurant and started to search for another one. After having our dinner in another restaurant, we walked back to this place, to realise that many tables were still empty. I think this is one of the reasons why Vienna and Austrian people are voted the most arrogant city with the most arrogant people in the world second year in a row. I lived a couple of years in Austria and I will never understand what kind of problem Austrian people have in their heads and why they treat other people as they are less important. It is very disguisting and shameful to behave in a way they do! Many people noticed that they have serious problems regarding to the human relationships with other people. I don't know if they lack better education or their brains don't support emotional intelligence?? Anyway,...
Read moreWe decided to try Augenweide for their Sunday brunch instead of our usual place for special occasions, despite a couple not great reviews.
We were really happy with it!
A very nice selection of appetizers (salads, breads, cheeses) including an excellent seaweed salad with shrimp and roe. Lots of salmon and tuna sashimi, as well as sushi. Oysters were plentiful and tasty. For the meats, there was roast beef, flank steak, chicken and pork - all were well done but the pork was my favorite. Egg dishes (scrambled, benedict) could be ordered. The scrambled were good but not much you can do with them to begin with; the benedict was really well done. Prosecco was serve yourself and very tasty; we could each order a hot drink, and the kids got a great hot chocolate.
Bottled tap water was served and brought to the table immediately; I appreciate how they didn’t try to upsell us on this. Overall, the service was really nice.
Desserts were the only slight letdown; I would have liked to see something milk/dark chocolate based. Also, they told my son that pasta would be done later in the brunch, but it was never offered.
Overall, very good value and we really enjoyed ourselves. Kids are only 19€ and as my own kids don't eat a ton at lunch, great to come someplace where we don't have to spend too much on them.
Definitely would recommend the brunch at this price point, and we will...
