On March 12, my husband and I paid over $500 for a day of terror and wet, windy misery. Powerboat adventures should have cancelled the long trip to the Exumas on that day because winds were over 25km/hour, but they didn’t. All the other tour operators had cancelled their trips that day; After one and a half hours of being slammed with enormous waves which would lift the boat high, and then pound the boat so hard that it would drop suddenly and throw us all around (no seat belts, btw - some of us confessed to fearing for our lives), we arrived at a deserted Allan’s Cay soaking wet, feeling like we had been in a car accident. During this long, horrific ride, they slowed the speed of the boat to take back some control, so it took even longer to get to Allan’s Cay - the raincoats provided no protection since the inside of the boat was essentially a bathtub. We were the only boat at Allan’s Cay (we have been here before and it would normally have been packed on a Saturday). When we arrived at their private island, the bartender/caretaker was shocked to see us, stating that no other boat had dared make the trip that day. It was so windy that the animators could not even get the stingrays to come out. The food was great, though, but most of us were still shaking so badly from the trip, with stomachs so upset that we could not enjoy it. It was too windy to swim so everyone kind of hung on the sand trying to warm up and dry up before the treacherous journey back. When it was time to go, everyone lined up a half hour early, each hoping to secure the seats in the middle of the boat which had a bit more cover. On the journey back everyone wore the raincoats and huddled, heads bowed, wishing it would be over already. Also note that the pigs on this island are not the wild natural ones normally found on Staniel Cay – they are animals kept in a cage and let out for 10 minutes so we could feed them as the poo all over our feet. We regret wasting our day with Powerboat Adventures, a company who (even though they thought they could make it out to the Exumas on such a windy day) clearly had no regard for our need to actually ENJOY...
Read moreOne of the best tours that our family has ever had in our lives! You must join this Original Powerboat Exuma Tour!!
All food and drinks and open bar are included on this tour too!
Bottles of water are on the boat along with a small bathroom too. This powerboat did not not feel bumpy, but the staff did not recommend this tour if you have back pain/pregnancy.
Only 2 stops so you get to spend more time relaxing.
First stop was to feed the iguanas who love grapes. One of the iguanas actually glared at me when I accidentally dropped his grape in the sand .
Second stop was at a private island where we were welcomed with snacks. Tons of sharks and sting rays at the dock.
We got to feed carrots to the swimming pigs. Bring your snorkel gear because the sea turtles seem to know that carrots might get dropped during pig feeding. There were easily 7 sea turtles swimming near us.
Later, we all got to feed and touch the sting rays, which was also an amazing experience.
Some brave guests were willing to feed and wrangle the sharks under the supervision of the powerboat crew. Yes, there is a possibility of accidentally swimming near sharks. These are NOT nurse sharks. I personally would recommend not going into the water past your knees if you’re menstruating. Also, definitely do NOT go into the water past your ankles during shark feeding time.
Lunch buffet had a ton of food from grilled mahi to fried fish to burgers/hot dogs and 3 types of salad along with fresh fruit. We were all stuffed full!
Fresh Conch Ceviche Salad demonstration. Tasted amazing too!
Some of us continued to snorkel while others sunbathed on the beach with drinks from the open bar.
1 hour speed boat to and from the private island (iguana island is 7min away).
Bring: -Beach towel -sunblock -snorkel gear -sweatshirt or jacket (it was cold, having a wet body on the return to Nassau) -Tip money for bartender...
Read moreThis was definitely the highlight of our 1st trip to the Bahamas, and I think that is saying a lot as we were staying at Atlantis. The team on the vessel were super polite and engaging with all participants. The whole day was full of different activities that kept everyone involved. Our favourite part was feeding the swimming pigs, but everything was better than expected. The boat ride was quick considering it was a 55km journey. visiting the iguanas on the island was a perfect way to split up the boat ride, and the team gave us more than enough food to feed them. Then journeyed to Ship Channel Cay, where we were able to have a light snack and a couple beverages. There were stingrays and Nurse sharks waiting in the bay to welcome us. Shortly after we were able to enjoy watching the pigs come out into the water to eat up some carrots right from our hands, easy to pet and very social group. After that we fed some stingrays some delicious chunks of squid. Shortly after the sharks started making their way closer to shore. getting excited to eat the left over grouper. Then came our lunch, which was a great spread of food for a remote island tour I have seen in a while. There was something that would satisfy everyone. After lunch we spent a couple hours exploring the bay, if you brought your snorkel you would see all types of fish, and conch shells. We were lucky enough to see a turtle and barracuda. We made our way back to the Nassau, which meant the end of the excursion, this was the only part of the day we hoped didn’t come.
Great team, great variety of things to keep us busy, top...
