Destination Greater Victoria Visitor Centre — Local services in Victoria

They are good, knowledgeable people here. You can not only find things to do, ask questions and get directions. You can also book tickets for things, buy tickets and get personal recommendations. This is is also the spot where Ghostly Walks begin and we always appreciate the added bonus of being able to point people towards the toilets. Underneath the building you will find a gift shop, a full service restaurant and you can book a whale watching tour as well. The great part is the location. From the viewing area you can take stunning pictures of the Empress Hotel, the Parliament buildings, the inner harbour itself or the historic steamship terminal. This really is a fantastic business in a fantastic location and all they really want to do is help you out and make sure your trip to Victoria is the best trip it can be. Our visit to this tourism centre was unhelpful to say the least. Monosyllabic answers to my queries from a disinterested young woman whose expressions told me that she thought me an idiot and that she was not interested in helping me or interested in her job. She also told me she knew nothing about ferry passages nor local bus information. The local people in the city had been more helpful than this young person who appeared to be more interested in the computer in front of her. As seasoned travellers on one of our first visits (out of three) to Victoria, shame on this young woman who should not be a doing a job she is profoundly disinterested in. Girl at the separate counter by the brochures wall side was amazing, however their boss lady (her name was Katherine ?) is quite entitled. I was just charging my phone after asking their team member. This lady came and turned the tree to block the way where I was charging and said to her union employee “keep tree like this to make a natural barrier”. Her saying this indicated that she didn’t want any visitor to charge their phone even it’s dying. I felt guilty just by charging my phone to make it 20%. At the end I thought she didn’t want any people of colour in that visitor centre. Hopefully someone will take this into consideration and ask this lady to be polite with visitors.
