Dubrovnik is a beautiful coastal city with fantastic views. Although it is very crowded with tourists, the Adriatic sea and the rich history of the place (not to mention the game of thrones filming locations !) make up for it. It is definitely to be put on one's bucket list !! And fyi, when you do go, instead of taking the cable car up to get a panoramic picture (which is an extremely short cable car ride and quite expensive) take one of the the car tours from the tour operators just outside Pile gate. Not only is this more reasonably priced, it takes you to two view points above the old city for spectacular views and drives you around the rest of Dubrovnik including a visit to River Ombla (one of the shortest rivers in the world !!).
