The Palais de Justice offers a remarkably unique and accessible experience in the heart of Paris. What truly sets it apart is that entry is completely free, a rare gem among the city's many attractions. This makes it an excellent addition to any itinerary, especially for those looking to explore Paris on a budget. Beyond its stunning architecture and historical significance, the real draw is the opportunity to attend actual court sessions. While photography is not permitted inside the courtrooms and a certain level of decorum is expected, observing the French legal system in action provides an incredibly insightful and uncommon experience. It's a privilege to witness the daily workings of justice within walls that have seen centuries of legal proceedings and personal dramas unfold. Located conveniently alongside the magnificent Sainte-Chapelle, it's easy to combine a visit to both. Consider purchasing a dual ticket for Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie next door to save time and money, but remember that the Palais de Justice itself welcomes visitors without charge, offering a profound glimpse into French institutional life. Don't miss this chance for a truly authentic Parisian encounter.

Jistě byly to dějiny plné zvratů.

Along with the Sainte-Chapelle and the Conciergerie, the Palais de Justice was part of the ancient Palais de la Cité, the residence of French kings from the 10th-14th centuries. The palace is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Paris, but suffered several fires and was partly rebuilt in the late 1800s. It has continued to serve as the home of the French justice institutions since the Middle Ages. Today, the Palais de Justice still hosts the Paris Court of Appeals as well as the Court of Cassation, one of France’s highest appeals courts. The Tribunal de Grande Instance, the Paris High Court, recently moved out, however, moving into to the brand new Cité Judiciaire (the largest in Europe both in size and activity) in the far north of the 17th arrondissement...
