I’ve visited this place twice already, and honestly, it never gets old. Perched above Rustaveli, on the slopes of Mtatsminda, Mama Daviti Church and the Mtatsminda Pantheon is one of the most peaceful and historically rich spots in Tbilisi. It’s not just a church; it’s a place where Georgia’s most brilliant minds rest, where you can take in breathtaking views of the city, and even taste the natural mineral water that locals swear by.

◇ A Walk Through History

The Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures is truly fascinating. Walking through it, you can see the final resting places of Georgia’s most influential poets, writers, and national figures. Some of the most notable names buried here include:

Ilia Chavchavadze – one of Georgia’s greatest literary and political figures.

Akaki Tsereteli – a poet whose words shaped the nation’s identity.

Nodar Dumbadze – a beloved writer whose works still resonate today.

Zviad Gamsakhurdia – Georgia’s first president after independence.

It’s incredible to stand here and realize how much history is packed into this one place. If you love history and literature, this is an absolute must-visit.

♧ A Hidden Mineral Water Spring

One of the things I love most about this spot is the natural mineral water spring near the church. Many locals believe it has healing properties, and it’s a little-known treasure for visitors. I highly recommend bringing a bottle to take some with you – it’s crisp, fresh, and just adds to the uniqueness of this place.

♤ Why You Should Visit

✅ Stunning views of Tbilisi – Perfect for sunset! ✅ A peaceful escape from the city – Great for reflection and a quiet walk. ✅ Rich history and culture – A must-see for those who appreciate Georgia’s past. ✅ Refreshing mineral water – A cool little bonus you won’t find in every guidebook.

☆ Tips for Visiting

Go in the evening or afternoon for the best lighting and views over Tbilisi.

Wear comfy shoes – the walk up can be a bit steep!

Take your time – read the inscriptions and learn about the people buried here.

Don’t rush – it’s a place to soak in the atmosphere and history.

Every time I visit, I feel like I discover something new. Whether you’re into history, looking for a peaceful spot, or just want to enjoy a different side of Tbilisi, Mama Daviti Church and Mtatsminda Pantheon is 100% worth it. Highly recommended!...

This is my favorite place in Tbilisi! The church of MamaDaviti is just adorable! You can have the most beautiful view over Tbilisi from this place! I recommend everyone to visit this place! The road leading there is long but rewarding! P.S. Right next to the church you can find a great mausoleum where many eminent people like Alexander Griboedov, Zviad Gamsakhurdia, Kote Marjanishvili, Ilia Chavchavadze and...

Wonderful church, yes you have to walk uphill for about 20 minutes from Rustaveli, but you will be rewarded by nice views of Tblisi. Went on a weekend near sundown and there really wasn't a wait.
