We visited Athens at the end of January and we decided to visit and take part in some wine tasting whilst we were in the city.
Athens Wine Tasting was highly recommended when searching online for popular things to do in the city, so based on that, we booked a session. Considering it was out of season and the middle of a Greek winter, when we arrived we had the entire place to ourselves. We found out we were waiting for another two people, a lovely pair of American ladies who were attending that session also. They did arrive late but once they had settled in the wine tasting started.
The whole session lasted about two hours and each of the local wines was presented beautifully and informatively. We sampled 5 wines altogether. 3 white and 2 red and each was accompanied by a local cheese that complimented it.
The host was a lovely woman, who in addition to the information about each of the wines, she also gave quite a good history lesson. I learnt from this trip to Athens that Athenians are very proud of their myths, legends and history which is all around you.
I would highly recommend a visit here if you are looking to try some local Greek wines...
Read moreVery poor very disappointing, as advertised 'wine tasting under the Acropolis'. This place had no view, no windows. Poorly advertised!!! It is a small room, locked in with no window. I had to ask for the AC as there was no air. The door was locked behind us and the host was not welcoming, she kept talking about the area outside, the homeless people etc and made me feel uncomfortable as she kept locking the door. There was no immediate rapport. There was no water on the table and she eventually topped this up during the session, and I had to ask for more water. We had three white wines and two red wines, she poured a small amount less than 125ml on each glass. It was a history lesson more than learning about the wines. We had a small tray of cheeses but it was not explained about the pairings. She began to wash the dishes when we got the the final glass! It was a sign to leave as her presentation was over. No opportunity to hang around and chill or buy more drinks/bottles. We left very unsatisfied. For £50 each this is NOT...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had such a wonderful experience with our afternoon wine tasting event last week. The woman running the event spent a few hours with us explaining the different wine regions of Greece and teaching us how to taste and appreciate different aspects of wine ā and she truly did an incredible job. Her enthusiasm and knowledge about wine was infectious, and she was just so personable that the whole thing was loads of fun. Iād recommend doing this on one of your first days in Athens ā youāll learn a lot about Greek wines and wine in general, and which you can apply to the rest of your time in Greece. Thanks to everyone at Athens Wine Tasting for giving us such a nice memory for our...
