We are staying in Florence for more than three weeks. In our first two weeks here, we were so in love with the Signum store that we went shopping there every 2 to 3 days. Then last Saturday at about 5:45 pm we went in and asked an attendant for assistance with one of the little plastic/paper packaging they sell the seals and wax in because we have bought one and needed to make sure it shipped home to our family without breaking. For some reason we did not get one when we made the original purchase. The attendant was helpful and took us to the till to speak to who must have been the supervisor or manager on duty who identified himself as Klaus after the following incident. My husband explained our problem while I looked for a box I might purchase if the shop could not help us, and worry over the wax stick breaking en route. Klaus could have suggested something, such as "Could you bring the seal and wax in and we will see what we can do?" Or he could have said, "Could you bring in the receipt?" Instead, Klaus said, "I was not on duty when you made the purchase so I can't be sure you bought it here." My husband was rather flabbergasted, as was I. He asked," Are you saying I am lying?" (over a tiny packaging!). Klaus essentially shrugged off as if to agree that he thought my husband was lying and we walked out feeling horrible. Seriously? We were shopping there repeatedly because we found it fun to rifle through their inventory and find bits of art and paper products, but Klaus abruptly ended that and we finished our Christmas shopping at other paper and epherium stores. In fact, we walked across the street and bought a cut pencil set in a box for 20 Euros, emptied it out and solved our wax and seal shipping problem. This sort of customer service is unacceptable in a shop that is specializing in tourists. We are not unreasonable. If he had asked us to bring the receipt, we would have done so. I loved this shop so much, I was going to complete most of my Christmas shopping there, but I am never going back again. I planned to tell our friends about our favorite places in Florence and this was one those two places until Klaus ruined it. Oh well, we found a place we loved even more over at the Duomo which has custom paper and wood products made by a local family of artists. Plenty of other options in a city known for its paper products and they were far more appreciative of...
Read moreIt would be a higher rating, as the store itself is rather lovely, and holds a nice collection of items. The location is right next to Ponte Vecchio. We saw it as the manager was closing up, so we came back especially the next day to visit. I was very surprised at the attitude from the saleswoman. It made me uncomfortable asking anything, I had intended to purchase quite a lot, I was prepared to get gifts for all my family, and had set plenty of time aside to browse. However, I was taken aback at how abrupt and rude she was from the moment I entered the store. I just bought the item I wanted most, put back what other items I had gathered and I left after a few minutes. I was friendly and polite- I’m not sure why she was so irritated. Her attitude was the only reason I didn’t stay and buy more. A pity. Store itself is worth a visit, especially to buy gifts, however customer service certainly needs improvement! This is not the norm in Italy, it was the only experience I had with...
Read moreIt was our honeymoon, first time in Italy. We're having a great time until entering this shop. It was in the afternoon, after lunch, my husband was carrying a pizza box with less than half a pizza. When we entered the shop, the storekeeper might have not liked that. She approached him and warned him to be careful not to let anything drip onto some of the orginal copies of maps. My husband apologized and kept away from the display. Meanwhile I continued shopping. When I decided to purchase a pen and three notebooks (which came to 23.50 euro), I gave the shopkeeper 30 euro. Without checking her till, she claimed she had no changes and told me to come back with the exact changes. My husband explained we were from Canada and only here for a day. She suggested to us getting some changes from next door and would keep the items for us. As I glanced from outside, she was putting the items back the moment we...
