Named after St. Charles Borromeo, a 16th century Cardinal from Milan, who led the Italian Counter-Reformation of the Catholic Church, this central square is surrounded on all four sides by porticos and arcades. In the center stands an equestrian statue of Emmanuel Philibert, Duke of Savoy, and on the Southern edge of the square stand the twin churches of Santa Cristina and San Carlo Borromeo.
