大阪の大大大動脈だが、運転者には大阪らしい地元仕様でツッコミ満載。地方ドライバーには初見殺しだらけの大筋で初見は確実に苦戦します。 近年側道封鎖の動きがあり心斎橋から先は高確率で渋滞する酷い大通り。

まず、大阪駅からすぐに新御堂筋と合流する部分は車線の白い線は薄々でほぼ消えてて非常に危ない。 次に、土佐堀通は左右2車線まで右左折可能、側道入るには各2番目の車線に行く必要があるが、3番目から曲がる危険ドライバーも多い。

土佐堀通りを越えると長堀通まで、右左折するには必ず側道にいなければなりません。 側道に入る、又は出るなら横断歩道にある切れ目で車線変更する独特文化がありますが、神経めっちゃ使います。渋滞すればタイミング悪ければ即クラクション。 その側道は曲がる車が寄せていないと直進車妨害になってしまいます。本町通り・中央大通では配慮がないと詰まり渋滞要因となります。 そして長堀通から側道が無くなる為、側道が今度は長堀通で強制右左折になりうっかり直進ができると思うと泣かされます。 更に、長堀通以南では乗降場所スペースはありますが、すぐ両端車線まではみ出て結局すぐ渋滞します。土日は長堀通からでは御堂筋に入ることさえ苦労します。 そして千日前通りとの交差点、難波は6車線に増えるも直進可能はたった2車線だけ。更に難波交差点は歩行者が多すぎて右左折は歩行者信号が赤になるまで中々動けません。 千日前通りからこの御堂筋に行く場合、昼間の土日は同様の理由で渋滞しない日はほぼありません。 そして最後の南海なんば駅付近は左から1番目車線減少餌食、2番目は左折専用、3番目が左折と側道用となっていて慣れない内は一番左を走ると大体一番苦労します。

この仕組みを覚えないと、大阪市を走れるドライバーになれません。 大阪は「青になってすぐ曲がった先は赤」という法則があり、各交差点は一方通行が必ずしも交互とは限りません。曲がる時は焦らず歩行者を待って曲がって下さい。

最後に、イベントでこの主要道が時々封鎖されることもあります。更に阪神が優勝しそうな時など、道頓堀周辺が盛り上がる場合は御堂筋通行は封鎖されていなくても強く非推奨です。警察車両が側道500mぐらい占領しますので大渋滞します。 歩行者である内は冬はイルミネーションが絶景などロマンチックですが、運転する立場になった瞬間危険地帯であることをしっかり認識して利用して下さい。 初見は長堀通までは、曲がる500m前には側道に、直進するうちは本線右から2番目が良いでしょう。
