The haircut itself was okay, but I am giving it only 2 stars due to the lack of transparency and poor communication. I brought my daughter in for a haircut.
While the staff was friendly, none spoke English (a common issue in Japan), and I assume they don't speak Japanese either, as they're all from Vietnam. Nothing a good online translator couldn't fix.
Before the haircut began, I asked if they accepted credit cards and was told yes. They then proceeded to mention there would be a 10% fee only after the haircut was underway (something thay should have disclosed upfront). They agreed to waive the fee, only to later charge an additional 1,000 yen fee for a hair wash we never requested.
In the end, I paid 4,000 yen for what was supposed to be a 3,000 cut. It's not about the money, but it tells a lot about one's integrity and honesty. These hidden charges leave a bad impression.
By the way, many Vietnamese hair salons in the area are flooded by suspiciously perfect 5 star...
Read moreA spontaneous haircut in Osaka and what a great experience! While visiting Osaka on vacation, I decided on a whim to get a new haircut. I ended up at 1998 SALON without an appointment and to my surprise, I was seen right away.
The hairstylist took a lot of time and care with my haircut, constantly checking and adjusting his work to get it just right. That level of dedication is something I’m not really used to back in Germany.
I also added a hair wash with a short head massage for just 1,000 yen incredibly relaxing and absolutely worth it. In total, I paid 4,000 yen, which is more than fair for the quality of service I received.
If I ever return to Osaka, I’ll definitely remember this salon and I’d be happy to come back!

Read moreSuper nice workers and great skills, I got my mullet cut after a while. Even though he seemed like he didn’t cut a lot of mullets before, he did a great job. My hair cutter was a young Vietnamese/Japanese man, he was super nice and did it exactly like it was on the picture I showed him. (look for pictures if you’re a foreigner, helps not only you but the employees a ton :D) Even though there was a language barrier we had a nice chat and everyone in the shop joined and we all laughed together. All in all I can highly recommend, especially for foreigners, if I will stay around this place I will go again right before...
