Even though I’m only giving 2 stars, I would like to point out that the food itself was great. The reason why I’m deducting 3 stars is because of their lacking service.
We were a party of 4 foreigners walking in a bit after 6pm on a slow weekday, and the only thing we were notified about was the time limit which was until 7:30pm. There was no single mention about the table service charge, which was ¥500 per person. Charging service fee is totally fine, I just wish we were told about it beforehand, because then we would have ordered more shareable dishes instead of rushing our meal to leave before our 1.5hr time limit. I personally just had a chicken pho which was ¥1200, and ended up paying over 40% for the “service.” Being from a country with tip culture, this feels ridiculous to me.
Another thing to mention is that the restaurant was not even half full throughout the entire time we were there, however the food delivery time and service was much below our expectations. We first ordered 2 shareables and 4 personal dishes. After we placed our order, the server came back and asked us to order appetizers as well because the kitchen is having delays and it would take long time for the mains to come out, so we ordered more appetizers. It wasn’t an apologetic or polite way of asking, the server basically “told” us to order more appetizers, pointed her finger to the menu, and stood there not saying anything but just looking at us until we finally ordered more. Turns out our mains came out first (which already took about half an hour), and our appetizers ended up coming out long after we were finished with the mains. I understand servers are expected to upsell their products, but it doesn’t seem like the best idea to pressure customers to order more food, they could’ve found a better way (ex. Read moreHigh-end location with a chic vibe, offering great looking cocktails and Thai / Vietnamese dishes. Presentation and service gets high marks, but the food itself falls short. May try again, but this wasn't a home run for me.
The dining room seats over a 100 people, and is rather busy with both servers and diners. There is also an outdoor patio which seats 30. Given the size of the restaurant, it's no surprise that the food doesn't come out coursed (our appetizer came 30 minutes after our entrées) - so you may want to order your drinks / appetizers first, then wait to order your entrées if you would prefer to eat in a particular order.
The portions (and prices) are enormous - so plan on sharing. I personally ordered a soup and a noodle dish, and it could have feed 3 people. Felt like such a waste, as I wasn't able to consume it all. My two friends shared a noodle dish and a salad, and that seemed to be a much better strategy.
What we ordered: tom yam kung (there was maybe one shrimp in the soup, but about 6 clams - which was a shock - very clam heavy) bamii haeng (very strange, and not at all spicy as the menu claimed - seemed deconstructed as many of the greens were too large to eat in a single bite with chopsticks, and the pork was ground up (not sliced)). lamb & coriander shumai (3 pieces, flavor was...
Read moreA fancy place overall, good vibe, decent food. Generally good service too. A good variety of drinks including non-alchol options. An extra point added for the vegan options. Can recommend in general.
Still, it was quite a hassle for us tonight. We booked for 8ppl but 2 couldn't make it. The restaurant reserved a place combined with 3 tables, which honestly would be a challenge for 8ppl and just right for 6~7. When they found that we only had 6ppl showed up, the waitor came requested us to give us one table, which put us in a very crowded 2 tables space for 6. After around 5mins, they came again and asked us to move to another table. It was honestly not a pleasant experience, they could keep the table for us as we do have a reservation, or they could ask us to move to a different table in the beginning instead of putting us through all the hassles. Also, the last order for food was an hour before the end of the 2hr reservation time, which is also quite unacceptable honestly. Oh well, the night turned out to be okay and the gift plates were also decent. It just did not feel entirely as nice as what we expected in the first place, which is kinda...
