Would give 0 stars if possible. Really bad experience, avoid if you can as plenty of other cocktail bars in the area!!! Scammy and potentially hostile to foreigners! I don't normally wrote Google reviews but the service was so poor I felt I had to write this.
We arrived as a group of 4, all looking like foreigners but 2 were Japanese speakers. We arrived and were told that all the inside seats were full and were placed outside on the terrace. Clearly 5 seats next to each other at the bar that were empty but we were told we could not sit there. Odd that all the customers inside were Japanese and all those outside looked foreign... Further when we went back inside to pay 15 minutes later, almost all the seats inside were empty- even though we had asked about the wait time for seating inside to avoid the heat outside and were told it would be long.
We also has a terrible experience with payment. We tried to order online using the QR code supplied and found out our order was cancelled when the waiter -who spoke both poor English and Japanese- came over to ask why we had not ordered yet. We then ordered through him at 5.50pm (happy hour finished at 6pm). When we went to pay inside, we found we had been overcharged with the cocktail prices outside of happy hour even though we had clearly ordered before 6pm. After asking, the waiter initially insisted that all cocktails did not have happy hour prices. Then he said that only 2 of the 4 cocktails had happy hour prices. Luckily we had our cancelled online order still up so we were able to clearly show that all 4 cocktails had happy hour prices. They refunded us via cash and a rude apology.
Overall please believe the other reviews speaking of scamming and overcharging. Luckily we did not get charged the ¥500 table charge like others on here but please avoid like the plague!!! Much better...
Read moreNew Light is a restaurant located in Shibuya, Tokyo, specifically within the MIYASHITA PARK complex. New Light offers European-inspired cuisine using seasonal ingredients, with a focus on grilled meats cooked over an open-air terrace fire. The chef's travels across various regions inspire the dishes. The restaurant also features a collection of contemporary art and a dedicated pastry chef for desserts. We went to the new light for lunch. We enjoyed our lunch as it was delicious. We were very hungry too as were walking all around. The staff lady was very helpful. We had a free lime soda drink with our meal. My beef burger was soft and yummy. The best was our cocktail. My drink orange zest was great. My son too enjoyed his whisky-based drink. I will suggest people to have cocktails as their bartender makes awesome drinks. Indranil enjoyed his chicken gravy with sticky rice it was delicious. My son too enjoyed his steak dish. A very cosy restaurant to have food with family. I was glad I had my lunch at New Light restaurant & thanks to the staff who...
Read moreMy friends were already eating at this restaurant and when I arrived they were almost finished eating so I didn't order anything as we were transferring in a few minutes. I noticed the waiter (who was not Japanese) constantly staring at me and eventually he approached us and told me to order a drink, and we said that we're good as we're almost done. He then proceeded to demand I order a drink or to leave the restaurant while giving a "shoo/go away" hand gesture.
Eventually I was forced to order a drink which I didn't even finish because again, my friends were already done with theirs.
As a tourist, I understand that there are rules and maybe it is part of the Japanese culture but the way he said it and the way he treated our table compared to the other tables was very rude.
Other establishments we dined with in Tokyo did have the same rule however they were very polite in letting us know that everyone has to order and of course we complied every time we...
