Unfortunately, I'm not happy with the results. Ai-san is a very friendly person, but the outcome was different from what I hoped and had discussed with her. Since I enjoyed chatting with her (her English is very good), I want to explain in more detail why I'm disappointed, so that others can see whether these points are valid for them.
I've booked a full head of highlights and a cut, which took 5 hours... We discussed that the highlights should be very fine and start with a fade, so that it wouldn't be obvious while they grow out (so no terrible "demarcation line"). Sadly, Ai-san set instead the highlights to start abruptly about 1.5cm below my root, so that even on day 1 it looks slightly grown out. Exactly what we discussed that I didn't want.
Given her interview on Tokyo Cheapo and her experience abroad, I had expected her to be able to give bleached hair a natural ashy toner. This is also not the case, as the toner she used is green and blue based (instead of lavendar/purple). Imagine my shock when I saw that I have green and blue highlights (toner was left in for too long)! Luckily, I can work from home right now, but I am certain at work this would not be appreciated.
At last, the cut is also not clean and took far longer than I'm used to. I have single longer single streaks inbetween and the shaping of the hair ends looks frayed. This is particularly sad since I came with very healthy albeit grown out hair, and I left with hair that looks irregular and unhealthy. Bleaching of course always damages the hair, but this is my first time that an expensive salon bleach for my roots left me with fried ends...
Overall, I paid close to 19000 yen (10% article discount), and I'll now have to go again to a different hairdresser to correct highlights, toner,...
Read moreThe salon is located in a quiet residential area in Omotesando, which I think adds charm to its already simple and charming interior! The staff all spoke English (highly-recommend for foreigners living in Tokyo) and are very welcoming!
I had Ai as my hairstylist and she was very professional, friendly and warm! She took into consideration what I was looking for in a new hairstyle, and also took consideration of what I was concerned about (if the hairstyle would suit my face shape, if the color for the highlights would suit my skin tone, etc.). We spent a total of 4 hours on my hair (didn't realize it was that long until I actually counted!) but there were no uncomfortable nor awkward moments with her.
I loved what she did to my hair and my co-workers feel the same way, haha! The most surprising thing about this salon is that it is cheaper than what I expected. Their service is superb, and I honestly think paying more for the whole experience wouldn't be an issue. :)
Thank you for the lovely and veeeery relaxing time. I will surely come back and recommend this salon to my expat friends who are also living...

I came to baroque to get a digital perm, and I had a great experience! My hair was a bit stubborn the initial appointment so the treatment didn't really take and they worked with my schedule to do a second session to get the result I requested. I really appreciate their flexibility and professionalism. Apologies, as I'm writing this late and don't recall the names of the stylists who worked with me 🙈. I had one primary stylist (perhaps Asako?), and another (Ai?) who came in the second session to assist a bit. They took really great care of me and made sure to check in often with how I was doing, if I needed a break, or if I wanted something to drink. The whole process included a cut, a perm, and a few washes due to the perm application. The washes were always very relaxing, with the right pressure/temperature, and my stylist was careful to not get water down my back. The perm application itself was pretty straightforward, and they included barriers around my ears so it didn't get too hot. Everyone was friendly and I'm very happy with how my hair turned out!...
