Embassy of Canada to Japan, in Tokyo — Local services in Tokyo

Numerous visits over numerous years, and the staff has very low knowledge of Canada. Information over the phone and in person is contradictory. And after 3 1/2 years still dealing with the same paperwork between Canada and Japan. There is no Canadian citizens available to Canadians in person unless you get the chance to meet the Military Police. The only way to get someone to speak with in the consular section is to literally repeat dozens of times that you would like to speak with the Ambassador Ian... . This is the 3rd oldest diplomatic "mission" of Canada, it is quite inadequate while being very frustrating, however Canadians are paying for a nice Art gallery in the basement which is sparesly populated with Art. The library is somewhat impressive but not sure if you can actually borrow...

Note that this is related to my personal experience with the Consular Section of the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, and not an in person visit.

In my particular case, a request that I had made to the Canadian Consulate in Osaka was forwarded to the Consular Section of the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo.

After the initial contact, it took a little bit of effort to get some traction in regards to my request given that the Consular Section had to consult with the Global Affairs Canada department.

I needed support with a damaged passport (from the rain). I contacted them Friday morning while in Kyoto and they sent me all the info I was required to fill out and bring. I arrived Monday morning without an appointment and they got me through quickly. I picked up a my temporary passport later that day just before closing. Ann, and the team there are very helpful and considerate. I can’t thank them enough for the quick turn around.

Please keep in mind it may take longer to get a temporary passport so allow yourself as much time before your flight as possible.
