I love getting my hair cut in Japan. The service, skill level and commitment to craft is second to none. There is no better example of this than Hiroginza.
I was in need of a haircut and happened to pass by this shop on the way to dinner at Tsujihan (luckily had a good hour wait in line there to read some reviews). After dinner, I peeked in to this second floor salon and asked if they could take me without an appointment. Lucky for me they were able to.
The session started with a quick greeting (from everyone!) and a chat with Kano-san about what I wanted. The semi-enclosed stations are spotless and groovily decorated. Mine had an American Western theme. On to the hair wash girl... very sweet and skillful. If you haven’t had a haircut in Japan, you might not be used to the face-first in the sink, hair and scalp wash in the beginning but it is wonderful. Then it was back to Kano-san with the edger, shaver, multiple clippers and that amazing scissor technique that Japanese barbers are known for. The second wash was also a scalp scrub and massage, this time with Kano-san, and it was amazing! I’ve been getting my hair cut every two weeks in the U.S. (including Hawaii) and Japan for the past 35 years of my adult life, and I’ve never experienced this type of powerfully percussive yet amazingly calming head shampoo/massage technique! It was heavenly and a major reason to come back.
Another young man came in to do the straight edge razor shaving, eye brow cleanup and neck & shoulder massage… I didn’t catch his name but, really well done.
Kano-San came back in for the finishing touches and styling and then I was on my way. At check out, They gave me the first timer package discount (Arigato!) and it was a bargain on top of an already great deal. My family commented that my hair and brows looked so much better and that I looked great!
I wish there were great shops like this at home in the SF Bay Area but I don’t know of any. The commitment to service and a great experience is evident here. I’d give them a 10 out of 10… they hit it out of...
Read moreI found Hiroginza through a friend who forwarded me their Google page. I was very impressed with the reviews, so booked an appointment. Not only did I find an appointment on December 31st, they were ready and waiting for me when I arrived at my appointment time. When I arrived, I was welcomed warmly and taken to a semi private chair.
Ryu was my stylist and he and the team were just so incredibly amazing. From the wonderful shampoo and head massage experience to one of the best haircuts I’ve ever had, by the skilled hands of Ryu, I wish there was a Hiroginza back home in the United States. I would come here for all my haircuts. 5+ Stars and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a great cut and relaxing (yet efficient, since it all took less than 30 minutes) experience. They didn’t speak much English here, but that was not a problem whatsoever. They really know what they’re doing. Absolutely one of the best haircuts...

I got my regular hair cut from the shop manager, Mr. Kano. He’s been cutting my hair for 5 years. I always satisfied. I told him my problem with my hairstyles, he always gave the perfect advice and cut with great quality.
I feel great with the result. In addition you also get a full face shaving and shoulder massage which is...
