Liquors Hasegawa Main Store — Local services in Tokyo

One of the great liquor stores of Tokyo, I've been making the occasional stop here for 15 years. The highlight is being able to pay for a half shot of a selection of aged whisky or cognacs without having to splurge for the whole bottle, being able to taste first for 1500¥ can help you make sure you are only buying what you enjoy. They are small, but offer one of the best liquor/liquer selections around. They have another store elsewhere if you're more interested in sake. Tokyo newcomers be warned, it may be tricky to find since it's underground mall walkway. Wide selection of whisky, friendly and knowledgeable staffs. You could sample the bottle (except the high end ones) for a small fee before purchasing the whole bottle. One stop place to shop for whisky if you are a tourist. Price is slightly higher than Donki/BIC Camera but you get much more variety and convenience shopping here.

They do limit the number of samplings one could take in one sitting to avoid customers getting drunk and rowdy but some customers accused them of being arrogant, which I think is unfair. A great spot I would recommend to visitors to Japan. Conveniently located with direct access from Tokyo Station, it’s easy to drop by.

They stock an impressive range of spirits from around the world, and the staff are genuinely knowledgeable. I was looking for spiced rum and dark cherry rum, which can be hard to find in Japan. When I asked about something similar, I was given clear and thoughtful advice, including a Japanese-made rum close in style to spiced rum.
