I visited the ceramic mural “Fugetsu Ennen” at Keisei Ueno Station, created by Luis Nishizawa, a celebrated Mexican Japanese painter and muralist. The work greets travelers at the main entrance, positioned on the right-hand side as you enter.
The mural is striking: an intricate composition of ceramic tiles forming a dynamic human-fish figure, blending symbolism from both Japanese and Mexican artistic traditions. Nishizawa’s work often sought to bridge cultures & here it feels like a meditation on movement, migration & continuity...perfectly suited for a station that serves as a gateway to Tokyo.

The 42 minutes journey cost you JPY2570 (Nov 2023). You could purchase the ticket through the vending machine (English available) or speak to a staff at the ticket window (limited English).
The station is directly connected to Toei Oedo line exit A5 via an underground walkway, making it easy access should you need to transfer to the metro line to travel to other parts of the city.
The train ride was comfortable and smooth with a clean environment. A train cleaning attendant will clean/clear up the train cabin after every arrival into the station....

I'm East Asian by heritage and born in Australia. There is something about having an Asian face but unable to speak Japanese, it irks a few Japanese. No help whatsoever in purchasing another skyliner ticket or if there was a chance to change trains. Was spoken to in condescending tone. Utterly unnecessary in 2024 and especially from a station that received many tourists. If you're white you will be fine and will not be treated unfairly on the contrary they will go out of their way...
