Sin Den English speaking salon — Local services in Tokyo

First and foremost, this is the best hair salon I’ve found in my three years of living here. They have consistently delivered superb results on my notoriously difficult hair. Not only are their cutting and styling skill superb, but their customer service and care are top notch.

I have always said “you get what you pay for” when it comes to hair care and usually spend around $50 (¥5000) for a haircut. Sin Den, while a bit more than I would usually pay at ¥7500, has delivered nothing short of perfect haircuts and stylings every time I’ve had the pleasure of visiting. I believe the experience and expertise of the staff justify this higher than average price tag.

As a foreign resident of Japan, I’ve struggled to find a salon where I can communicate effectively with my stylist what I want and have them reciprocate accurately. With the staff at Sin Den, there is no worry about getting “lost in translation” and every request has been answered exactly.

In regards to expertise, my hair is naturally wavy and very thick. All my life I’ve had trouble finding a salon that could manage my troublesome hair and make it look presentable. Not only have the staff at Sin Den been able to make my hair look great at the salon, they were able to give me the advice I needed to recreate the style at home as well.

The customer service and customer care are top notch and has the same “omotenashi” one can expect from establishments in Japan. While the stylist ascertains what you require from the cut and styling, another staff member will bring you a beverage of your choice with a biscuit. They do not rush and will work with you until you are happy with the results. They are not, however, without suggestions and will give expert and honest feedback if requested.

I cannot praise this establishment enough and I would highly suggest anyone reading to give them a try. Shoutout especially to Anne who has been my stylist every time...

I should have left a review much sooner. I’ve been going to this salon for about fifteen years and I have never had a bad experience. I generally leave feeling like I stepped off the cover of a hair catalogue. The “worst” I had was that once I left only feeling like normal, but with shorter hair as requested. The one time I wasn’t sure about the color, they offered to let me try it out for a few days to see how I felt with it, and when I didn’t love it, they had me come back in so they could adjust it to something I did love. And they didn’t charge for the color correction.

The customer service is always amazing. The staff are friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable. They help make sure whatever cut I get is something that will work for me on a daily basis according to my habits and styling efforts - basically I need low maintenance and that’s what I get. It looks great when I leave the salon, but also three weeks later when I’ve just rolled out of bed and run a brush through it. They know what’s going to WORK. And also what isn’t. They kindly discourage me from doing anything that will extremely damage my hair and help to find alternative solutions. I often have bright colors - currently neon green and blue - and they advise me about what ideas are feasible transitions with my current color.

Anyway, a great salon all around, and I highly recommend them.

I had my appointment over a month and a half ago on May 29, so this review is a bit late, but I thought it would be a good time to update the status of my hair. I got a keratin treatment done because my natural hair is unmanageable in humid weather.

First, the salon was very clean, and they took Covid-19 precautions very seriously and I was able to be far away from other clients. Second, my stylist Anne was super sweet and amazing! Third, the keratin treatment has lasted very well to this day. The whole process only took about 2-3 hours. Now over a month and a half later, my hair is still shiny and actually looks normal in humid weather. I love this treatment because unlike permanent straightening, it has a natural and gradual return to your normal hair so you don’t have an awkward growing out stage!
