I decided to visit this place after short research online. Believe me, eating at hotel restaurants will leave you broke. It was pleasant surprise to see small prices and big portion sizes here. I really loved interior of this place, it looks nice, cozy and very authentic. Customer service is superb. You always have food on the table and will get attention from server immediately if you need something. Before you even decide on the entree, they bring you house-made nachos. In addition, you getting free soup with any meal (lime soup was really good). I tried mixed meat (beef and chicken) fajita. My soulmate tried freshly fried fish. We literally could choose the fish they will fry for us. Food was really good and it was quite much to eat. Though, I still got frozen lime pie for dessert (it was sooo good). The drinks in here are really cheap (twice cheaper than in hotel), and the glasses are really big. We tried margarita and pina colada cocktails. It's really great place to have a dinner, sit with friends and have a great time. We even watched American futbol on TV while sipping our drinks. Highly recommend to visit while you in Cozumel.

I don’t have enough stars to rate La Choza as high as I would like to rate them! The staff were all super nice, the atmosphere was perfect, the food was amazing, and the diet cokes were ice cold! A local friend recommended La Choza for our lunch stop while in Cozumel while on a cruise. This will forever be our new lunch stop when we cruise to Cozumel! We enjoyed visiting with the owner/manager, Christian, and learning that his grandparents started the restaurant many years ago. If you’re looking for a great, local place, close to downtown, but a few blocks off the beaten path for lunch, La Choza is the place for you! We can’t wait to go back! Update - 2025: We made it back for a second visit to La Choza in March of 2025, and it was just as wonderful the second time around! They are now selling the hot dip in jars you can take home with you - we bought two to bring back home! La Choza is still the best place on the island for lunch!!

Quick Summary - Excellent food that is of high, fresh quality and authentic as you'll find. Prices on all marked dishes is very fair. Lobster and fried fish are severely overpriced. Detailed Review - it's a 10ish minute from the Lobster pier once you're out of the complex. The interior is inviting and the service is above average. We had a wide variety of the menu: pico de Gallo, cream of corn soup, shrimp ceviche, beef tacos, grilled redfish filet and grilled lobster. The total for all the above (including 3 beers and 2 bottles of water) was US$150. If you take off the lobster, the total would have been US$65. The lobster was not worth US$85. Stick to listed price items and you'll be fine. Also they do charge above the daily exchange rate (very normal and expected), but you can usually have them charge in your home currency and save some money.

La Choza, Cozumel: A Must-Visit for Authentic Mexican Delight

La Choza in Cozumel came highly recommended, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. This gem delivered an unforgettable dining experience with its authentic Mexican cuisine, warm hospitality, and incredible value. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us with genuine friendliness, setting the tone for a fantastic meal.

The complimentary chips and salsa were a highlight—fresh, homemade chips paired with a unique salsa that wasn’t the typical red variety but burst with flavor. We ordered the fajita mix with shrimp and chicken, and on a whim, asked to add beef, which was a brilliant choice. The fajitas were sizzling, fresh, and perfectly seasoned, showcasing the authenticity of the cuisine. The homemade tortillas elevated every bite. We also got a side of rice and beans, which were unlike anything we’ve had in the U.S.—distinctive, flavorful, and a must-try.

The margaritas were a standout: perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and easily some of the best we’ve ever had. The restaurant itself was spotless, with a clean kitchen that added to our confidence in the food’s quality.

The taxi ride from the Celebrity Cruises port was a quick $10, making it an easy trip.

For two of us, the bill came to just $50, including drinks and a generous amount of food—an incredible deal for such quality. La Choza is a place where every detail, from the fresh ingredients to the exceptional service, comes together perfectly.

Highly recommended for anyone...

There wasn’t anything wrong with the place. The food was good and the service was excellent.

That being said, it was more American style Mexican food, which was not what I was looking for. It wasn’t super touristy but still when I’m in Mexico, I want authentic Mexican food, not fajitas. This place was recommended by a local person so I expected it to be more authentic especially after I told him that I wanted to stay away from Americanized foods.

The chips were good and come with a spicy salsa which we loved. The guacamole was also good but don’t expect it to be like the guacamole that you are used to in the US. This guacamole is more like pico with avocado. I loved it. The soups were ok. The pork fajita was better than the chicken.

The prices were slightly less than what you would pay in the US but not cheap as some other local places, if that’s what you are expecting. For example, fajitas ranged between $14 - $17 USD and I ended up paying around $120 for 3 adults and 2 kids.

Service was as great and attentive. The staff does a great job being on top of stuff and making sure you are comfortable.

The ambience is great as well. It is open in the front and back like many places in Latin and South America.

Again the food was delicious, just not the place you want to go if you’re seeking real...
