I really used to love this place and went there almost every day. Especially the fact that they seemed to care about locals/regulars by offering a very reasonable flat rate enabled me to ignore the obvious negligence of the facilities for many years. I was able to live with the fact that my old subscription got canceled and i had to re-subscribe at a higher price. But in the recent months it seems this approach has been entirely abandoned. During the tourist high season it's always booked out, rendering my subscription basically useless, while the sauna is often just half full due to people not showing up for their booking. It would be great if at least a few slots could be reserved for members to avoid such situations. No efforts are made to educate tourists about Scandinavian Sauna culture (which they often would be really interested in), leading to suboptimal temperatures due to people leaving doors open or using the water in reckless ways. A recent review was answered stating a list of sauna rules would be posted the same day, which was not the case. The straw that broke the camels back for me was that from January on, monthly members were only able to book a 2h slot by paying 100NOK extra for such booking, which used to be included in the membership. I'm sorry that I have to leave this review, I used to recommend this sauna to all my friends but it appears PUST is much more caring about profiting off providing an instagram opportunity for tourists than supporting the local community and endorsing Scandinavian Sauna culture, as their marketing would suggest.
PS: There might be more genuine ways of showing your interest in my feedback than prompting an AI to gaslight me about virtually every point i made. I appreciate you took the time to insert the sentence about the "unlimited drop-in", but the statement is self-contradicting. It can't be unlimited and limited to one hour at the same time. This is...
Read moreSoul cleansing experience in Tromsø. The traditional Sami sauna felt scenic with the large windows looking out onto the water and landscape and maintained a great temperature the whole time even with people coming in and out. It is laid out so that you can socialise or close your eyes and listen to people enjoying the atmosphere with their old and new friends. The cold dip was very refreshing and well laid out with a ladder to go down into. The whole thing was very easy to book online, easy to find, and simple to navigate around.
Some considerations that may be useful to others to expect: there is diesel run off from all the boats in the harbour which unfortunately comes into the area where you take a cold plunge. It can be washed off easily but some people may be sensitive to this. The changing room is very basic in a very small space with one small cold shower which can be a bit cosy when it is busy…be prepared to rub shoulders with your fellow sauna-goers! The storage in the changing room was open with no possibility to lock things away and sadly my t-shirt was stolen.
I would definitely visit again but would go without valuables, fewer clothes, and I would plan to head straight back to your hotel for a warm shower and change out of slightly damp clothes rather than walking around town or...
Read moreUsed to love this place, but recently it's become more of a tourist attraction than a place for relaxation. Most (tourists) don’t seem to be familiar with the sauna etiquette. People are loud, leave doors open and use the sauna more as a social getogether and for insta than anything else. Perhaps some "quiet sessions" could be introduced to the booking? Or just open another sauna just for locals and people with memberships.
The new floor was very necessary, nice that this was fixed. The far too small changing rooms are well known and a constant struggle, and not an easy fix of course. However, it could be worth investing in making signs to close (both) doors so the temp wouldn't drop all the time. I understand it's difficult to remember the code for most but leaving the door (to outside) wide open is not only counterproductive for the temp in the sauna but also not very nice for the people in the changing rooms. Also, adding a sign to please use towels. The wood smells absolutely nasty by now with 10/12 usually not sitting on a towel. Also, this is not Finland, it's not a nude sauna people! Another area smelling disgusting is the shower -- that people pee in because there is no toilet. Another sign to point out yet another obvious fact would be...
