We had three amazing days and three amazing tours with Arctic Explorers! We visited Tromso between 18-21/12/2024. For our first day we chose to do the Fjords Tour. Our guide was Kristin with her husband Eivind being our mini bus driver. The tour was spectacular! The ideal tour to begin your trip to Norway and Tromso. We stopped to several spots at the 5h program. We witnessed the beauty of polar night with the full moon surrounding us. She showed us breathtaking sceneries with red cabins near the sea, high cliff fjords and also we stopped for lunch and hot chocolate. We had our lunch outside in front of an amazing fjord view. The second day we had the Whales and Northern Lights package. The whale tour at Skjervoy was one of the best experiences of our lives. We cant even describe how you feel when you are in the boat surrounded by full moon, polar night daylight, fjords and norway’s frozen northern sea. The truth is that at the last 30 minutes of the tour we felt really cold despite the overall suit but it was worth it because we saw several times the Orcas and Humpbacks welcoming us at north sea! Truly magical and highly recommended ( they have to options for Whale Tours: Choose the one with bus transportation because the Skjervoy Harbor is 3.5h far from Tromso). Lastly we joined minibus Northern Lights tour with our guide being Jessica. The overall experience was amazing since it was our first time ever chasing Auroras. Jessica was so polite and from the beginning she did everything to explain us everything about Northern Lights, where we were heading and how we could find clear skies. It was a hard night due to clouds but we waited patiently at the spot Jessica found for us. We had a meal outside and finally we witnessed Aurora for first time. Jessica took us beautiful pictures and it was great! TO TOP IT ALL OFF, in my opinion choose these guys for your activities in Tromso and believe me they will do everything to witness the...
Read moreWent out with 3 different companies and Arctic Explorers provided the most complete experience. After pickup from the hotel, they took us to a changing room for thermal suits and boots and where we could leave our extra layers. Then they took us out on the chase. Louis was a friendly guide, but it was difficult to hear everyone from the back of the bus, so I recommend showing up to the meeting spot early so you can secure seats closer to the front of the bus. We had no luck early in the night, then Louis announced we’d head to Finland if everyone was ok with a long ride home. We all agreed and it was EPIC! I had hear some chases will take you to Finland for clearer skies inland and it did not disappoint. We were out in -26C, knee deep snow and we saw a pretty good show. Then Louis made a campfire and served meals. After another hour of playing spotter, I turned around to the fire and saw a column forming in the sky behind the bus. We all ran for the road and saw an incredible show. The lights danced from E and W, then even formed an arch across the sky. Louis let us stay out longer to see it all before we headed into our 3 hour bus ride back. But it was so worth it. I highly recommend this company.
Also their gear kept me warm and toasty in incredibly cold weather and tons of snow. I wore 2 layers of wool and a down jacket for the top and 1 layer of wool and insulated pants for the bottom, all under the suit provided. I wore 2 pairs of thick wool socks and the boots provided were great (super thick soles so the cold doesn’t come up from the ground). BYO socks, hat, balaclava / neck...

We booked a trip through Nordic Visitor and they sent us on a northern lights trip with Marcos from Arctic Explorers, and a very small group. Summary, fantastic! Nobody can guarantee that you see the northern lights, but Marcos did everything possible to improve our odds. He got us moving early and quickly to get to a spot before anyone else. The spot he picked for the night was perfect. It was right alongside a lake. We were there early enough that we were first, so we got a great ground zero camp site down by the water. He built a nice fire to keep us warm, eat around, and toast marshmallows over. Marcos is also a seasoned, award winning, expert photographer, that was a real plus to be with him. He had tips for photography and all the info you might want to know about photography. When he said he was from Portugal, I had my doubts ;-) but all us humans are just that, humans. He had a great personality, very funny, and fun to be around. He had the same sense of humor as me and my wife, so we quickly clicked. We DID get lucky enough to see the polar lights and get some great photographs. Even if we had not, it still would have been a very enjoyable evening hanging out with...
