The place was very welcoming and the people working there very friendly. Me and my family went there to have dinner. At the entrance, there was the sign to wait to be served. We waited 20 seconds before Sabrina (the employee) came to accommodate us at a big table. While we were looking at the menu, we saw that a family was leaving and from their table there was a better view, so we asked to Richard (the manager/owner) if it was possible to move at the other table. He told us to wait 1 minute (the time to clean it), and he moved us to the table requested. We ordered the whale and the reindeer. In a few minutes, we got everything, and Richard came to explain more about what we ordered because it was our first time eating those dishes, and we appreciated it. We arrived at the restaurant quite late, but this gave us the opportunity to steal a bit of Richard and Sabrina's time to talk about the northern lights, the country, the traditions of that place and a lot more, trying to not compromise the service to the other tables. We noticed that while we were talking, other people around us were listening and trying to get more information, exactly like us.

I would say: the food was great and delicious, the atmosphere was very welcoming, the view was amazing, the people working there were very friendly and the price was not expensive at all (it may seem a bit but considering that you are in Norway I can say that it was ok). In the end, Richard proposed to me to go fishing with him in summer if I went back to Tromso again, so you can imagine how friendly they are.

Thanks again, Richard and Sabrina, I hope to...

My recent dining experience at Kaia in Tromsø was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment I stepped foot into the restaurant, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a welcoming atmosphere that set the stage for an unforgettable meal.

The service at Kaia was top-notch, with attentive staff who went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was perfect. From recommendations on the menu to prompt and courteous service throughout the meal, their attention to detail truly stood out.

Now, let's talk about the food. Every dish that graced the table was a masterpiece, bursting with flavour and expertly prepared. I had the pleasure of trying the reindeer burger, and it was an absolute delight. Juicy, tender, and packed with flavour, it was a true celebration of local cuisine that left me craving more.

In addition to the reindeer burger, the menu at Kaia offers a tantalizing array of options to suit every palate. From fresh seafood to hearty meat dishes, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

The ambience of the restaurant was also noteworthy, with a cosy yet elegant setting that provided the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.

In conclusion, Kaia in Tromsø is a culinary gem that should not be missed. With its fantastic service, delectable food, and inviting atmosphere, it's a restaurant that exceeds expectations in every way. I can't wait to return and explore more of their mouthwatering...

Was here on NYE at an odd hour (around 4pm) and was only offered the NYE prix fixe menu to order from, but was hopeful that the food would still be good. I should've left after the crab they said they had on a sign outside wasn't available to order till 6p. Soup that was part of my set wasn't hot, but they were nice about reheating it. It was tasty but not anything outstanding... just a run-of-the-mill cream and butter based soup that seemed ordinary. Whale steak was served at room temperature, dry, hard to cut, and chewy... only thing on the plate that was hot were the fries, which I was happy about. I wasn't interested in the dessert that came with my set menu and asked if I could have a soda instead... nope! Service was meh... had to keep asking for water, which took forever for how quiet it was at 4-ish. After asking for water a second time, they brought me a pitcher which arrived as I was signing my card receipt. At least I got to drink three tiny glasses of water before I had to leave. I regret coming here in hopes of tasting some unique Norwegian foods. Absolutely nothing was even that tasty. Would've settled for something familiar but had flavor with how awful this place was. Come here only to hang at a dive-bar-like atmosphere with live music. Don't come here...

The atmosphere of the bar is lovely, with friendly service and one side of the restaurant offering a cosy and pretty view of the harbour. That’s is where the good ends. My partner’s crab sandwich was a bit homemade, essentially just a pile of crab meat with fresh garlic on bread, but tasted acceptable enough, although its freshness was up for debate. My “arctic fish and chips” was hands down the most disgusting, greasy, burnt, foul excuse for a meal I have eaten in years. I didn’t finish it — which is rare for me — and feel sick from the grease as I write this. The tiny pieces of fish found within the burnt nuggets were rubbery and the batter was a messy glob on the inside and burnt on the out. We are literally overlooking a fleet of arctic fishing vessels in a city reputed to have the best fish on the planet, and somehow this restaurant managed to produce fish that was either frozen, imported, or just destroyed by a stand in cook. I’m speechless and quite upset. A sandwich from the supermarket would have been a better choice. Also, clearly we were spoiled in Oslo because the fries there were great wherever we went, but here they were oily and overcooked. Worst food in years — I need to wash my mouth out with some chemicals to get the taste out.
