Salcedo Weekend Market — Local services in Makati

Always a joy to shop at the Salcedo weekend market on a Saturday morning. We try to go as early as 7am. It's our weekend ritual to hit either Salcedo on a Saturday or Legaspi on a Sunday.

For today's loot, we got some Pain Chocolat, Almond and Plain Croissants from a French lady, Laetitia who specializes in butter-rich Flaky Pastries. Prices at P140+ a piece.

We then were lured by the amazing smell of Ineng's Barbecue which was kind enough to give senior discounts. Not all will, which is understandable since they are mostly home based businesses that would want to keep their prices low to be attractive to would-be buyers. Ineng's is a bigger brand and quite established already. Here, we got Pork BBQ, Chicken BBQ and Spicy Hamonado Sausages. Pork at P98/stick large, Chicken at P209 per leg and thigh fillet and Hamonado Sausage at P89 each.

We proceeded to the Jung family booth of Korean goodies where we got some Green Onion Kimchi, s Seafood Pancake and original Korean Veggie Pancake. Don't remember prices of each but paid P670 for the 3.

The "Chief," Paulo Benedicto D of Benedicto's Kitchen explained his process for both Roast Beef and newer Mustard rubbed Roast Beef. So, we got both! About P200 per 100 grams.

Once a week, Salcedo car park turns into Salcedo Market where people in the neighborhood as well as passers by can buy their week-long supply of raw food and maybe satisfy their barbecue or fresh fruit cravings.

There are raw food and cooked meals at Salcedo Market. There are plenty of meal choices to choose from but you'll be surprised that the prices of these meals are equivalent to the prices of meals of some of restaurants at Greenbelt, ranging from 220 to 400 pesos, and bear in mind that if you chose not to bring your meal at home, you'll be eating in a styro or plastic box, outdoor under the heat of the humid afternoon, with flies and mosquitoes around you. With that price, I'd rather dine in a nearby resto.

But on a plus side, this place is a great place for those who live nearby to buy their week-worth of raw food supply. There are fresh meat and variety of sea food options, vegies nuts and fruits and native Filipino dish such as Tinapa, tuyo, tapa and tocino. You can also buy here Native meryenda like bibingka, sapin-sapin and various suman.

Most people in that neighborhood live in condo units so they might be craving for some fish or meat barbecues. Salcedo Market can satisfy those cravings for it has a lot of tasty barbecue to...

Very nice market with different varieties of fruits, meat, bread, organic goods, exotic foods and more. I’m going there every Saturday morning and have been very happy with everything so far!

All the way from Australian fresh bread to maroccan tagine and fresh fish, you can get everything you want for a cheaper price compared to the local supermarkets.

If you’re a foreigner you might end up paying the same price like in the supermarket, I suggest you take a local friend with you who checks all the lists and haggles with the vendors.

One of my favorite snacks is the maroccan stand on the south west side of the market, they have a spicy chicken shawarma that is very delicious!!

Parking can be troubling but there are a lot of small streets around that can be parked at in a 100m radius’s

Most of the market is covered by big umbrellas so even if it rains it’s ok to go, so far ok flooding / swimming experiences.

I suggest to bring your own basket , they have typical shopping carts for people who buy a lot so you don’t need to carry everything yourself.

Exotic or / and European fruits such as raspberries, blackberries and currents are much cheaper here if you’re looking for that kind of...
