I needed a solo daytime activity and this was absolutely PERFECT!
Small group, very attentive Chef, lots of tips, great sightseeing, and an absolute wonderful time making friends while cooking, drinking, and enjoying a lovely meal!
Maria was extremely pleasant, easy to understand, provided so many details and stories, and created a wonderful environment from the get go.
We met outside the Market, started with a glass of Cava, walked through the shops and got first hand experience with the fresh foods, learned about local grown veggies, and got to sample a few amazing treats! We got up close and personal with the local catches and saw a squid get de-boned! Gross and Cool at the same time!!
We then took a quick stroll through the streets to the cooking school. It was nestled near La Rambla area- felt pretty safe! The school was beautifully decorated and had adequate seating for the group and a separate cooking area.
We started with a glass of Cava, got to know each other and share stories while making PAN CON TOMATE (Bread with Tomato) it was so simple yet delicious experience.
We headed towards the kitchen area, made some Sangria (which was sooo delicious) and then learned about the origins of our Chef Maria and got to see how passionate she is about sharing this experience of making Pallela.
Step by step, each of us got to experience and participate in the making of the Pallela. From cutting veggies, frying the crab/shrimp, pouring fish stock, stirring the sofrita, mixing, crushing herbs, each of us were kept engaged and got to learn so much! After the Pallela was made, we gathered around the table and enjoyed this collaborated meal! It was indeed Perfect!
There was so much interaction with the food, the chef, and one another - I could not have asked for a better way to spend the afternoon! So if you're looking for a fantastic way to make a memory- BOOK This...
Read moreWhether you are on your first or 20th visit to Barcelona, the paella class at the Paella Barcelona Cooking School will enhance your visit. You will meet your host and fellow guests at the entrance to La Boqueria to begin an adventure. This includes learning about the market itself, being introduced to the ingredients included in a traditional paella (as well as notes about additional options), a demonstration of how to select the seafood, and an opportunity to purchase some fabulous ingredients (the paprika is making our luggage smell wonderful!).
Next, you move on to the school where the real fun begins! After enjoying a delicious pan con tomato (which you will make for yourself) along with cheese and jamon and a glass of cava, you will move into the kitchen and be assigned a few jobs. I was wine girl (in charge of stirring the Sangria - don't laugh! it is a very important job) as well as prawn girl, laying the prawns in the pan, flipping them, then moving them off to the side. My husband was apple guy and paella stirring guy (you only stir when first putting the rice in). Jump in and have fun!
As an additional note, I informed them ahead of time that my husband is alcohol-free. We made two pitchers of sangria - a large traditional one, and a smaller alcohol-free one. We really appreciated this - as did another guest who was wanting to trim back her alcohol consumption, as well.
The hosts are friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. We had an amazing time. After the experience, they sent links for recipes and videos and are available to help with future questions. We both definitely recommend this experience and would definitely go again on a...
Read moreAn absolutely amazing time. 20/10 recommend. Started off touring the Boqueria Market, we were transported through sights and beautiful smells of market foods. A bustling place full of life. Our tour guide Emma was delightful snd informative providing lots of information about the Market but also all the ingredients to make paella and sangria. She was funny, delightful, and charming. We then had a short walk to the cooking space that was lined with beautiful brick walls, a decorated communal table in the middle , and a kitchen and cooking area in the back. We enjoyed prepping the seafood, making sangria and sharing stories and laughs. The whole experience was stunning and memorable and would certainly do it again. My daughters 9 and 12 enjoyed their time and also were very involved in preparing and cooking the meal. They also enjoyed making non-alcoholic sangria, a recipe we will make again in the future in addition to everything we've learned today You will not be dissapointed . Emma you're fabulous and such a gem
Cheers and...
