So bad it's hilarious!
Located in the lively Flower Market we've been coming here whenever we visited Cadiz. Right outside the Post Office, you can really get the local atmosphere, and watch the world go by.
But visiting today it looks like they have new management. And they really suck. It's the only place in Spain where we have ever felt unwelcome. Service was slow to the point of non-existent, the owner was rude, offensive and arrogant, the waiters rude, slow and laconic. Everything happened at a snail's pace.
The new owners no longer have WiFi, nor do they take credit cards. They do have pretty little sailor suits now, though, as a substitute for good service.
When we gave them a fresh new 20 Euro note the owner examined it distrustfully, theatrically holding it up to the light and rubbing the foil strip - as if we were crooks passing counterfeit notes!
I can't say the coffee was as nice as previously either, although the Churros were OK
So if you don't want to be blatantly insulted while waiting an age for sub-par coffee keep walking. The flower market is full of great...
Read moreNice location and an ok food are the only positives about this place.
Seems severely understaffed. A waiter took our order and dissapeared. Waitress was running around serving, cleaning tables, bringing bills. She was very overwhelmed and stressed, hence not friendly. We ordered two coffees, a chocolate drink, Coke Zero and 3 portions of churros. We were receiving our order in parts after reminding her multiple times what's still missing. We ended up finishing the whole breakfast while one of us was still missing their drink (Coke Zero) despite kindly reminding the waitress about it probably 5 times. At the end he we said we just want a bill as we need to go, won't wait for the Coke anymore as everyone is finished. She brought the bill and a regular Coke (we asked for Zero).. Overall just very messy and unorganized but also unwilling to solve issues. Churros ok, nothing special. No plant based options for milk (just regular or lactose free) for a place that sells thousand coffees a day is a big...
Read moreThis is a traditional, no nonsense cafe. The service is efficient, and because they are so busy they may seem impatient. You need to know what you want and to be able to communicate that during the busy times. This can feel brusque or off-putting if you're not expecting it, but it's not unfriendly and you shouldn't take it personally. If you're used to it it's actually comfortable knowing that you're able to communicate so quickly even across the room. But it's not a place that caters to, or defers to tourists and it's up front and unapologetic about it.
I found it delightful. The staff crack sly jokes with the customers and each other, and the place buzzes with activity. It's also very social, people are chatting with their neighbours, smiling and laughing.
Prices are reasonable. Coffee for 1.30, jamon and manchego sandwich 2.40,...
