Experience of a lifetime to enhance Spanish speaking confidence and skills
Participation in the Pueblo Español immersion program of June 14-21, 2024 was one of the most exciting and positive experiences in my life. From my first inquiry to post-graduation, Pueblo Español Manager, Julia Palomino, and her staff were friendly, professional, and quick to respond to all my questions. Transportation to the site of the program was smooth, and the ‘rustic hotel’, Casón de la Pinilla, at the town of Cerezo de Arriba, was clean, quiet, and featured gourmet meals. The program director, Cecilio Muñiz, kept the five students and five Spanish volunteers interested, motivated, and full of good cheer while at the same time maintaining the week’s activities on schedule. Our eleven-person group bonded by the second day of class as we students took up the daunting but fun challenge of speaking only Spanish. The activities were intriguing, varied, and normally lasted an hour, which was sufficient time to capture the student’s imagination, address the subject, and report to the group. The volunteers came from Madrid, Barcelona, and Malaga, and all provided gentle and knowledgeable assistance, speaking clearly and with vocabularies tailored to the Spanish language skills of each student. The atmosphere was one of trust and shared enthusiasm. My takeaway: If you can carry on a basic conversation in Spanish and want to improve your conversational skills and confidence, I highly recommend this experience. A final note: for the first three days after my return from the program, all my thoughts were in Spanish! Pueblo...
Read moreI participated in the Pueblo Español immersive language proogramme from May 23-30, 2025 in Cáceres, located in the Extremadura region of Spain, to improve my spoken Spanish.
To benefit from the programme, it’s essential to have the ability to speak the language at intermediate level because during the programme you are required to speak the language for at least 12 hours a day over the eight day period.
The programme was led by a masters of ceremony who organized a wide range of activities, both individual and group based, to encourage participants to consistently speak Spanish all day. My group consisted of 10 participants and 10 language learning facilitators.
Accommodation was in a former convent and the participants and facilitators shared all meals during which they also spke Spanish. We made outings to Mérida, Cáceres and Alcántara which are of historic importance to the region.
Pueblo Espsñol also runs programmes in other areas in Spain. I highly recommend this programme to anyone who has already reached an intermediate standard in Spanish and wants to build on their ability to speak the language in a natural setting conducive...
Read moreI participated in this one-week Immersion programme in March 2025. It was intensive (as the website says); the first 24 hours or so was the most challenging, having to "re-wire" my brain to speak Spanish only. I found the programme most useful - coming from Malaysia there is hardly any opportunity to speak Spanish there - the week really helped to escalate my conversation capabilities. It was well-structured, balanced between group activities and downtime to rejuvenate. The company of other students added fun and flavour, while our voluntarios and our Programme Director kept the energy flowing. I recommend the programme to anyone who is looking to improve Spanish speaking capabilities, as well as an opportunity to spend some time in a place that is off the beaten track,...
